Calling A Family Meeting In An African Home(My Experience)

Greetings everyone,i trust we all are doing great, first time post here, hope am welcome.

I grew up in a pretty large family, and there was division of labour of course. My duty was washing of the cars and atimes, sweeping the stairs.

Then a time came, my 3 elder siblings were away from home for different life pursuits (NYSC inclusive).
My 2 younger brothers were in the boarding house, and I was left alone with the last born and my parent.

What happened? Everyone's duty was now mine to do
From bathing my youngest sibling, to washing, tidying, etc, etc
I was in University at the time.
I couldn't concentrate in school because I'd be thinking of the chores awaiting me when I get back.

I tried my best, really, I did. The plates generated were as if there was a full house. I wondered how 4 people could still be making it seem like we were more.

One day, I had tidied everywhere. I left the kitchen sparkling, and went my way. Upon returning to the kitchen, it was a mess, like, is there a machine cleaner around? Abi na Ai cleaner dey?

Mehn, I was furious. I decided the issue must be addressed.
How? By calling a family meeting

So I went to my dad, who was in the living room. I told him I wanted to have a family meeting. Dad hadfx heard me exclaim earlier, so he knew why I called for a meeting.

He was like, "you know what? After the network news, you can have the meeting. I will inform your Mummy, okay?"..
Okay Sir. Finally, an understanding African parent

Mehn... I was excited. Matters were gonna be addressed. Like a tunnel, I saw my liberation at the end
I didn't have advisers, I would have aborted mission. But wait o, my Bishop (David Oyedepo) said "a closed mouth is a closed destiny".

No time! I went to chill in the room, marking time.
Immediately after the news, I went to the living room.

Ah! Where is Mummy? Dad said she may be sleeping, Shey you've seen it's late. Time that he gave me o
I didn't know it was a set-up so that mum will not attend.

Anyways, I was glad the head of the family was at least present, so I proceeded.

I humbly tabled my "problems" to my father. In a nutshell, all I requested was that everyone should help make work easier for me. I said this with instances cited. Honestly, my elder siblings did not give me the memo, I promise I would have adjusted

Dad was reasoning the matter with me. Like a "janded" family, we seem to have a very understanding and smooth meeting. I was elated. Who knew!, meetings are essential for life.
When we were done, I slept like a baby that night. My worries were over.

Sisters and Brethren, sounds of chores awoke me in the morning.
Wetin dey sub?
My mother was doing the chores
As early as what time?? 🫢🫢

When I walked up to her, my Mama courtesied and greeted me good morning. In her words, "Good morning Patience". She almost added "Her Majesty ".
My knees were bended.. Mummy?!

She said she had been briefed on my meeting, and that she and my dad were sorry they didn't do house chores, so I can relax as the "Excellency" that I am. My mum said the things she was told, and trust me, I didn't say most of them.

Apparently, dad told her his version, spiced it up very well". It was indeed a setup!

Ewo o o, mummy o...
I was restless. I called my other siblings and reported myself (and mum called them too to report me).

The veil over my eyes were torn to pieces. The garment of work was delivered to me, and I wore it with all my might.
I fired my audacity plug. Whatever gave me such morale
I swung into action.

I did chores without complaint. No matter the work, I completed them excitedly, because, omor! "Good morning Patience" with a courtesy like I was her Majesty the Queen, na your mate?

My parent didn't need to scold me, but their actions were enough to reset my brain.

Since that day, anything that can make me call a family meeting, count me out!

Have you called your parent for a family meeting before? How did yours go?

Happy Wednesday everyone
Thanks all for going through my blog
Have a nice day

I’ve never tried to call my parents out for a family meeting and I don’t think I can do that because I will eventually get blamed for it😁😁
