We admire the works of ancient civilizations in ancient sites. What amazes me the most are the stories of their construction and emergence. When we set foot in ancient cities, some of them look like ruined stones. But every structure we look at and touch offers us a memory from the past. Today, I will tell you about Kekova Batik city, which bears important traces of Lycian civilization and is flooded.

Eski uygarlıkların antik bölgelere yaptıkları eserlere hayranlıkla bakıyoruz. Beni en çok, eserlerin yapılış ve ortaya çıkış hikayeleri şaşırtıyor. The Kekova region covers a large area with islands called the Sunken City, Kaleköy (Simena) and Üçağız. These regions, which are connected to Antalya Kas district, are usually visited by yacht tours. Kekova, a thin long island in appearance, is one of the most important big islands in Turkey. Inonu Bay

On the yacht tour, we first come to a canyon-like cave on an island positioned in the middle of the sea. We swim here for about half an hour. The view of the curved rocks in the middle of the sea and the green grass on top of them in the clear blue waters gives you great pleasure. This area, called İnönü Bay, shows me that there are many more beautiful bays to see.

İnönü Koyu

Yat turunda ilk olarak, sanki denizin ortasına konumlandırılmış bir adada kanyon görünümlü bir mağara doğru geliyoruz. Burada yaklaşık yarım saat denize giriyoruz. Denizin ortasında kıvrımlı kayalar ve onun üstündeki yeşil otların tertemiz mavi sulardaki görüntüsü insana büyük bir keyif veriyor. İnönü koyu olarak geçen bu bölge, bana, daha görülecek çok daha güzel koyların olduğunu gösteriyor.

Aquarium Bay

After having our first experience in clear waters, we come to Aquarium Bay. The water here seems a bit more calm. The sea is so clean and clear that we can almost see the bottom of the water. In this bay, we can see the submarine more clearly. I can say it is a great bay as a diving spot. Shall we take out the snorkel and sea goggles? Let me tell you right away. The lenses of the sea goggles can be different. Some are designed with a curved shape to increase visibility. These types of goggles have larger lenses that increase peripheral vision more. I paid attention to these when I bought my goggles, so let's enjoy the sea and the submarine. We take a break in Aquarium Bay for about an hour. During this time, dinner was served. In the menu, you can choose fish and chicken as main dishes. They also serve a salad with the main course. Drinks are an extra price.

Akvaryum Koyu

Temiz sularda ilk deneyimimizi yaşadıktan sonra, Akvaryum koyuna geliyoruz. Buranın suyu biraz daha durgun görünüyor. Deniz o kadar temiz ve berrak ki; neredeyse suyun dibini görebilme şansını elde ediyoruz. Bu koyda, denizaltına daha net görebiliyoruz. Dalış noktası olarak harika bir koy diyebilirim. Batiksehir

Perhaps one of the most special and eye-catching points of the boat tour is Batıkşehir. There are historical ruins belonging to the Lycian, Roman and Byzantine periods in this Batıkşehir, which has a long shore on the edge of the island of Kekova. The fact that some shops and house-like structures were both under the sea and on the shore was a very remarkable sight. We listened to the story of the sunken city and the information about what happened here from our tour guide while walking along the shore. Due to the severe tsunami experienced here in the past, Lycian cities were greatly affected. The giant tsunami rising from Egypt submerged many anti cities such as Myra, Kaleköy and Patara. After this event, city ruins began to emerge under the sea around Kaş and the island of Kekova. As we walk along the coast, we see old structures that have been submerged. Among those we saw were religious temples, water cisterns, baths and shipyards. The fact that this beautiful ancient city, which was created on the island of Kekova, stands on its shining face in the sea makes its story interesting. Although its current appearance is buried in the waters, it is engraved in our minds as a clean and shining city in the clear waters of the blue.

Batıkşehir

Teknu turunun belki de en özel ve en göz alıcı noktalarından biri de Batıkşehir'dir. Kekova adasının kenarında uzun bir kıyısı bulunan bu Batıkşehirde, Likya, Roma ve Bizans dönemlerine ait olan tarihi kalıntılar var. Bazı dükkan ve ev görünümlü yapıların hem denizin altında hem de kıyısında bulunması oldukça dikkat çekici bir manzaraya sahipti. Batıkşehir'in hikayesini ve burada yaşananlar ile ilgili bilgiyi kıyı boyunda gezerken tur rehberimizden dinledik. Eskiden burada yaşanan şiddetli tsunami sebebiyle, Likya kentleri bundan büyük ölçüde etkilenmiş. Mısır'dan yükselen dev tsunami, Myra, Kaleköy ve Patara gibi birçok anti kentini sular altına gömmüş. Bu olaydan sonra, Kaş çevresi ile Kekova adasında denizaltında şehir kalıntıları ortaya çıkmaya başlamış. Kıyı boyunca ilerlerken sular altında kalmış eski yapıları görüyoruz. Gördüklerimiz arasında, dini tapınaklar, su sarnıçları, hamam ve tersaneler vardı. Kekova'nın adasında oluşturulan bu güzel antik kentin, denizin içinde ışıl ışıl parlayan yüzünde öylece duruyor olması hikayesini de ilginç kılıyor. Şu anki görünümü her ne kadar sulara gömülmüş bir halde olsa da mavinin berrak sularında, tertemiz ve ışıldayan bir şehir olarak akıllarımıza kazınıyor.

Simena (Kaleköy) Bay

We anchor on a beautiful and historically rich island where the boat tour leaves its guests free for two hours. When we docked on the island, we came across a small, cozy village. Let me tell you right away. There is no transportation here by road. The local people trying to hold on to life on the island have learned to live intertwined with the ancient ruins for years. There are stone houses scattered on the island, most of which have two floors. The locals here make their living entirely from the tourism sector. When you walk around the village, you can realize that the old stone staircases of the old buildings are still standing from long ago.

Simena ( Kaleköy) Koyu

Tekne turunun, misafirlerini iki saat boyunca özgür bıraktıkları çok güzel ve tarihi zenginlikleriyle dolu bir adaya demir atıyoruz. Adaya yanaştığımızda, küçük, şirin bir köy karşımıza çıkıyor. Hemen belirteyim. Buraya kara yolu ile ulaşım sağlanamıyor. Adada yaşama tutunmaya çalışan yerel halk, yıllarca antik kalıntılarla iç içe yaşamayı öğrenmişler. Adanın üstüne dağınık olarak yerleştirilen ve çoğu iki kattan oluşan taş evler var. Buradaki yerli halk geçimini tamamen turizm sektöründen sağlıyor. Köyün içinde dolaştığınızda, eski yapı taş merdivenlerinin çok eskilerden kaldığını fark edebiliyorsunuz.

You can walk around this village by the sea through the narrow stone stairways in the alleyways and on the slopes. On every walkway you pass, you also pass by the houses.

Denizin kıyısında yere alan bu köyü ara sokaklardaki ve yokuşlardaki dar taş merdivenli geçitler sayesinde dolaşabilirsiniz. Geçtiğiniz her yürüme yollarında, evlerin önünden de geçmiş oluyorsunuz.

On the roadsides, you can see the local handicrafts and various clothes made by the women themselves. When you walk through the village from the left on the pathway, you come to the closed tombs standing in the sea. Here you can also swim in the sea if you wish.

Yol kenarlarında, kadınların kendi yaptıkları yöreye özgü el işlemeleri ve çeşitli kıyafetlerden oluşan giysileri görebilirsiniz. Köyün içinden soldan patika yoldan yürüdüğünüzde, denizin içinde duran kapalı mezarlara kadar geliyorsunuz. Burada isterseniz denize de girebilirsiniz.

At the top of the village is the castle of Simena. You reach the castle by climbing up the stone stairs and following a tiring path. When you reach the top, I am sure you will fall in love with the views waiting for you. A vast, seemingly endless, deep blue sea, which mesmerizes you, just shines in your eyes. The sarcophagi scattered around on the sea dazzle the eye. Of course, the colorful boats approaching the sea and waiting on the shore add a different beauty to the view.

Köyün tepe noktasında, Simena kalesi bulunuyor. Kaleye, yine taş merdivenlerden çıkarak yorucu bir patika sonucunda ulaşıyorsunuz. Tepeye ulaştığınızda, sizi bekleyen manzaralara aşık olacağınıza eminim. İnsanı büyüleyen uçsuz bucaksız, görünen masmavi bir deniz, öylece gözünüzde parlıyor. Denizin üstünde etrafta dağınık halde duran lahitlerde, göz kamaştırıyor. Tabi bunun yanında denize yaklaşan ve kıyıda bekleyen renkli kayıklar da manzaraya ayrı bir güzellik katıyor.
