Tiny birds... tiny legs!

Well, it made sense: last week, big legs; this week... short legs! No, I haven't lost my mind: it's this week's SMAP theme! So, without further due, let's start the little leg show!

Red-rumped swallow - Cecropis daurica

It the short leg championship, swallows are well placed for sure! And did you know... they're also the species that prevents babies?? (sorry... couldn't resist!! 😂😂😂).

This is my favourite swallow species, that reddish colour is so cool; and while doing this post, realised the species genus changed! It used to be Hirundo... man, it's hard to keep up with the systematics!!

More common than these swallows, are the friendly robins. Although this one wasn't that interested in posing, at least he showed the legs!

European robin - Erithacus rubecula

Well, at least he kind of glanced at me... the same can't be said about this little guy:

European serin - serinus serinus

But here's the good thing in keeping photos that I would discard otherwise; thanks to this contest, I started keeping them because one never know if some fun unusual theme will pop up... and look how good we can see its tiny legs!

Ok, back to the posers.

These are tiny ones too. And I bet for these guys Mother Nature could have been more gentle, since they're shorebirds and could probably use a couple more inches in the little legs; then again, Nature knows its stuff, and the short legs are probably better to run quickly in the sand!

Common ringed plover - Charadrius hiaticula

This one was clearly in a contemplative mood, looking at the tiny waves coming and going, in a cloudy morning somewhere in SW Portugal.

Who knows? Wondering about the meaning of life for a little plover or... maybe he was just wondering... why the hell was he born with such tiny legs? :)

Hehe. I enjoy your post.

Birds can be beautiful. You took good shot. Nice one.

I bet he was wondering how he could stretch his legs to be longer. Heh

Thanks for sharing

It's just like these beautiful birds as they have thin legs but they are very sharp and fly in a second and they all look very beautiful.
