Splinterlands Social Media Challenge.... and a giveaway

Off to another Social Media Challenge! I've been trying out a few battles in modern format, and since I rarely play modern, I'm starting my journey in Bronze league; hence, this challenge is a great way to showcase what kind of battles you'll be expecting in bronze.

Notice a trend? :) And no, I don't win all the time, far from it; but if you look closely, you'll see that all my teams have soulbound summoners. And why? Conscript ability runs the show here: it's the ability to summon a gladiator card to your team, and all gladiators (that you can only get playing brawls and accumulating merits) have the bloodlust ability, which gives them +1 to all stats everytime they kill an opponent card.

So my advice, unless you have very poweful cards, is to focus on these summoners and pick a good gladiator. My favourites?

• Katrelba and Quora from the earth splinter
• Captain Katie from the life splinter
• Isgald Vorst from the water splinter

There are more, of course, but these are the ones I tend to use the most. And to showcase my point, here's a recent battle in Bronze I:

Ruleset: all mellee monsters have the sneak ability!

Given this ruleset, I would be expecting heavy damage to the backline; but instead of focusing on a sneak strategy, decided to go for the life splinter and rely on one of my favourite gladiators, Captain Katie:

• Pelacor conjurer as tank: I was expecting more damage to the rear than the front, so this seemd a good choice, fast and low mana.
• Chaos agent as a filler
• Captain Katie, my main damage dealer
• Vulguine, a quick melee card that gains one health every time a card dies
• Chaos Knight, a card with shield, that can take a ton of damage

My strategy was to hold the backline with my two melee cards, and hoping my tank would be alive long enough until Captain Katie gets bloodlust.

As predicted, my opponent had a strong melee team, and was able to finish my back row easily; at mid round two, I had already lost my 2 melee cards, but finally Katie gets her first kill, and bloodlust kicks in.

From there, things got easier, but I was still outnumbered. Fortunately, at round 3 Katie finished the last non melee card in the lineup.

And from there, the kills started piling. At round 6, only Katie remained, against two opponent cards; but by then, 7 magic damage and 6 speed are hard to beat....

My opponent strategy was very good, with a shield monster in the backline and with a legendary card with weapons training, increasing the amount of attackers; but even that wasn't sufficient. As you can see, even when faced against a good strategy and good cards, having a gladiator in your team drastically increases your chances of success!
