Contrasts

I've spent a good portion of my last vacations wondering through the woods in a nacional park called Gerês, in northern Portugal. And though I'm yet to do some more thorough posts about all the wonders and nature trails, there were so many little (and not so little) details, that a monomad challenge is a perfect way to feature them.

Such as one of my favourite encounters, with a species I came across a few more times after this.

Sneatky things, these little lizzards; you only hear a rustle most of the times, and after that, a tail escaping through the bushes. This time, was the opposite: after the rustle, he came. And stared at the guy holding the camera.

In the smaller plants along the way, other encounters could have happened either. A spider probably passed here, not that long ago; but the only thing I saw were the little strands in the heather.

I can imagine the vast amount of creatures wandering in these woods. Most of the woods were filled with green, and even without their natural colour, it's easy to see how luxurious they are.

Here and there, little streams and tiny waterfalls gave them even a little more charm.

And yet, in some parts, in some trails, although the green was everpresent, the lack of foliage and the tree disposition could alter the mood a little bit. And in monochromes, the inviting passage becomes an eerie wood; how easy could we fit this landscape in a horror movie?

Monochromes do give a more dramatic setting to a scene, most of the times; wether in a landscape filled with naked tree branches, or in a piece of the mountain where the rock claims more space than the trees.

But again, for me it's in the little things, that the monochromatic contrast shines.

The place there also looks quite beautiful and I like to go to places like that.

Beautiful pictures and writing!! I also had that thought while seeing your photos: how many creatures are there around, in the plants, in the trees, in the water. I have to say that you took me through a very diverse trip in the nature. But… the first picture with the snake… scary! If I see that animal I can start running very fast to go back to the city, hehe
