I just traveled all down the east coast, and didn't see anything like this. It would be my guess that the store you were in is closing soon, or remodeling. My local store looked a lot like this when they put in new floors, then again when they got new freezers.

This one is a new store, but they are remodeling. They have 3 others close, maybe I'll go look them over too.
I noticed the floors have been stripped and clear coated, and has that warehouse feel.
A major effort to get "somewhere", maybe a FEMA processing center? Whatever it is, I'm sure it isn't good for us!
