Some photos from my friends.

A funny and happy variety of photos here today.
baboon_with_bread.jpg

Ever seen a Baboon steal a whole loaf of bread from a kitchen?

My friend Sandra and her husband are working in the Bain's Kloof mountain pass, as her husband is a roads contractor and she sent me the first 3 pictures. I am sure that you will also enjoy this.

Sandra was feeding a Dassie (Rock Hyrax) with a slice of bread and she didn't know that a baboon was watching her.
dassie_rock_hyrax.jpg

A Mongoose (Atilax paludinosus) also came to have a look for some food as they live down at the river and Sandra went back to fetch some more bread. But of course the bread was gone.
dassie_with_mongoose.jpg

She peeped out of the front window and saw the bread thief hahaha.

Now for some great joy and happiness.

Marian's sister lives in a karoo town and she sent us the next two pictures.

The first rain clouds that they have seen for many years in the drought stricken Karoo and this dam was dry.
dam_1.jpg

After a couple of hours the dam was filled to the brim and it started to overflow. We are still in the last day of the storm with soft rain down here today.

And then for something sad.

Cecilia's cat Savannah had a haircut as it loves to forage in the bushes and her hair was matted with thorns and grass. So she didn't look at all happy here.
Sadly Celia died a while ago and that is a story for another day.

Looking at and reading this post, I was so reminded about the events in our lives. There are times of happiness and joy with laughter and then there are times of deep sadnesses.
Survival is the name of the game for all life on earth and we all simply have to make a plan to somehow get along.

Our wishes are only the very best for everyone that reads this post.
Not because you support the post, but because we really care.

And That's All Friends!

Oh yes and it's the same here as we also find them comical and interesting.
Sadly there are those that hate and kill them, but such is life.

Good and bad are so close together.
I laughed at the baboon and I felt sad for the cat.

Actually, the cat reminded me on a black long haired cat we once had. Always when the hair was too much matted, that we couldn't brush it anymore, he got a haircut at the vet. The head and the tail stayed with long hair, just like Celias - Pino, that was his name, looked like a black lion, and he liked it. He died many years ago.

I hope you're having a nice weekend, Zac, although it rains 🌞

Hahaha, I also giggled at that baboon and his tricks. Don't take only one slice, as not worth getting into trouble, so rather take the whole bread and the trouble will be worth it.

I don't know what happened to Celia's cats when she died, but I know that her one son took one of the dogs.
A sad story about Pino, but I bet he had a good life with you guys. At least he liked his shaves, but I can sense that you still miss him.

Cheers and thanks my friend.

That baboon should come on our balcony and try to steal something from my wife - even if he would love living here, he would run as fast as he can and don't stop running before he's back in South Africa 😁

Pino has had a good life and yes, we still miss him, we miss all our 3 cats we have had.

Hahaha, I would so love to see your missus when that big ape climbs over the balcony rail. I am sure that we will hear her scream here in South Africa.
Or maybe I am wrong and we will hear the baboon's scream here 🤣

Oh yes, we miss our departed pets my friend as they have a special room in our hearts.

Cheers and thanks.

Oh yes, you would certainly hear her loud, butnot understandable 🤣 and you are right, the next scream would be from the baboon 😂

They were family members and you never forget family members, even not the ones you didn't like.

Maybe they will write a new dictionary of swear words when they decipher her screams 🤣
Obviously the baboon would know what she said in her screams and he will flee for his life 🤣
So the people will know her as the baboon whisperer and the baboons will know her as the baboon terror 🤣🤣🤣

Hahaha, I have had a dog that I didn't like and just like your cats, my dogs had each their own special characters.
I just never thought that one day I will have a small, cheeky dog like our Troy, as all of my dogs were big guys.

Cheers and thanks.

All migrants will come to us over the see, all but the baboons 🤣

So I was right, you even don't forget the pet you didn't like 😉

Hahaha, I might catch a baby baboon in the moutain pass here and send him to you 😜

We both know that you are always right Hannes 👍
Only when it suits you 🤣

Cheers and thanks.

Yep, maybe you could send it that it arrives at Christmas and please write "for Monika, the Baboon Whisperer" on the parcel 🤣

Oh my goodness, can you imagine the delivery guy's eyes when he sees that adress 🤣🤣🤣
"Monika the Baboon whisperer" will be arrested for the illegal import of a baboon and you will have no one to make lunch for you to take to work 🤣

Maybe that's a good idea as then you can lose some weight 🤣

Cheers and thanks.

If she talks to the officers in jail like she talks to the baboon, they will release her quickly and maybe give her a job in a zoo 😂
If I lose more weight I'll have to buy new clothes again 🤣

Or maybe appoint her as the official police spokesperson, as then people would be too scared to complain 🤣
Imagine that. Less complaints means less work and more sleeping time 🤣

Oh, I thought that you said the other day that you would have to remove a few luxurious fat rolls on your stomach in orded to go for longer hikes.
I just thought that it could be a good solution for you 🤣

Cheers and thanks.

Haha, yes, more paid sleeping time 😂

Did I say that? I can't remember, but if you say it it must be correct 😁
I have been on a little hike with my wife today - a gorge in Slovenia - and I can tell you that it was a little bit exhausting. I don't know if the reason were fat rolls or being lazy for months 🤣

Hahaha, oh yes, youb did say that, else I am sucking it out of my thumb, but I don't think so 🤣

Now that's what I would call a Lovely Fall Photo and the rush of running water gives life to the picture.
A great shot.

Did someone say that time takes it's toll? As it is the truth methinks 😉
Months of idleness are the harbringer of lazyness 🤣
To say nothing about the fat rolls that appear out of nowhere 🤣🤣🤣

Cheers and thanks.

Thank you so much Zac, I didn't do much editing in the past days, but here I have another photo from yesterday's walk through the gorge. I have tried another style - hopefully you like it.

2021_10_28_vintgar_gorge_8216_pano_3000px.jpg

Yeah, the past months have made me lazy and I have certainly a few kilograms more on my hips, but yesterday's walk has showed me that I should do a little bit more. If I'm not too lazy tomorrow morning, I will go for another little walk.

Now this photo is a winner I am sure Hannes.
Amazing that I also posted a bridge today, but with a totally different theme.
Your photo has a great amount of character in it, especially with the water and the bridge and they are complimented by the fall colored background.

Exercise is fat's real nemesis and if you continue with your walks you will soon be in tip top condition again. Lately I have cut my walks because of the knee and I so miss them as the short walks don't do much for me.

Cheers and thanks.

Thank you so much Zac, it is a panorama of two photos and I have had a lot to do because somehow the two parts didn't suit very well together 😂

I have had a little walk this morning and I'm planning a longer one tomorrow morning - soon I will run up the mountains like a mountain goat again 🤣🐐
With the new knee you will catch up all the miles later you can't do now.

Hey Zac. Lovely post. So typical of the baboon lol.

Bains Kloof is stunning, I love it out there, the nature reserve has been one of my favourite camping spots for years, I even took my colleagues there for an end of year party - fond memories.

It looks like Sandra will have to stock up on treats now, they'll probably be back now that she's fed them once lol.

The Karoo is loving this rain, I couldn't believe it rained solidly right through about 10hrs here. The farmers are so grateful and this rain may have even been the saving grace of some who were on the verge of giving up their hope & their farms.

I'm terribly sorry to read about Celia and her cat. It is never easy, you guys are in my thoughts.

Kind regards
Ranger Andy

Hi Ranger Andy, nice to see you again.

Yes we've been to Bain's Kloof and in summer we will go and spend weekends there, as Johan and Sandra are our neighbours down here. When they are away at Johan's work in Bain's kloof, they are retarring the entire pass road, then they stay up there in a cottage.
We look after their house when they are gone and when they return home for a weekend at month end, then we will go up to stay in their cottage.

Yes, Sandra will certainly feed all of them as she is like that Lol.

So great how that deluge of water have seemingly broken the back of the drought. Let's hope that the trend will continue the same as it did here when Cape Town almost ran dry.
The weather patterns are rapidly changing and today is our first sunshine day after a solid week of rain.

Yes, Celia was a nasty experience as she pleaded with us to sell up in Joburg and come down here to her apple farm, as she wanted us to manage a step down clinic for cancer patients that she wanted to build on her farm. But as we arrived here she was in Isreal for treatment of her leukemia and after 6 months she died in Israel. An Iron woman and a great friend.
Thank you for the care.

Blessings.
