Life in the village
Serenity and fresh air best describes life in the village. Truly, there is no place like home. A place where everybody knows a bit about everybody. You can hardly go a long distance without stopping to exchange pleasantries or wave at someone far away. How I miss the please I grew up!
My current location gives me a feeling of being back home once again. The slow pace life, less vehicles on the road, domestic animals here and there, people taking walks, greeting one another along the road and mini kiosks everywhere is really village living.
This evening I took a walk around my neighborhood and I was happy to have taken the much needed break from indoor activities and interact with my environment.
I left the house to get this particular kind of baby toothbrush but couldn't find it in all the shops around me. So I kept walking and asking in more shops. I really needed this toothbrush because it was getting harder using wool on my baby. Since she now has teeth, she didn't think it will hurt me if she closed her teeth on my finger sometimes. I wanted this toothbrush because it
Is designed as a glove toothbrush and it will secure my finger a great deal. But there is something else I didn't realise.
I failed to realise that my baby is bigger now and she needs a bigger girl's tooth brush at age 1. So after a very long walk and search, I arrived at a shop that had it. As expected, I bought it twice the budgeted price without complains and I came home feeling fulfilled.
Meanwhile, its the beginning of rainy season for us over here in Nigeria, at least over here in the west. Rainy season is not my favorite time of the year. This is because of the little water here and there on the streets plus the dirty gutters. The greenery and the seasonal food make up for its not so palatable side so yea, I'm not complaining.
The heat that always permeates before an actual rainfall is one other thing I don't like so much about this season. Like why do we have to sweat every time its about to rain. For instance, its been threatening to rain since yesterday but first there is this intense heat that has refuse to go. So much so that I even have heat rashes now.
I see coconuts and mangoes everywhere now. I'm not sure if they are part of rainy season fruits but I'm happy there are more and more fruits appearing now, most especially our dear 'abalumo' (cherry like we popularly call it. Not sure if this is the real English name though).
Peep that cloud that is gradually forming? Well that rain never fell. It just gathered and disappeared. It seem like there won't be as much rain this year judging by how the rain is taking its time compared to other years, by now we'll be getting regularly shower here in Lagos.
If I was really back home, I'd be eating sweet corn that were freshly plucked from the farm by now. I see them roast corns at one or two places around me here but haven't gone to check them out because they don't entice me and that is weird because I'm an award winning champion when it comes to eating sweet corn. These ones here look so immature peeping at it from a distance. I'm sure they would be sold at ridiculous prices so I don't even go near mainly because they just don't entice
me.
Are you a corn eater like me? Do you love rainy season? What's your best part of Village living?
I love rainy season o. Infact I want it as we speak. Rain has refused to commence over here in the central belt and the heat is unbearable. But being in the village I don't think it entices me anymore apart from the side that you have access to eating almost anything you want for free.
Yea, free and highly nutritious food is one great thing about the village but we like the modern and busy life of the city.
Good to have you here!
Its probably because of the personal growth rate you get when you're in the city than being in the village. Hence, it is what pushes most out of the village.
I am a corn eater too, both roasted and cooked corn with coconut or roasted pear🤩.
As for the rainy season, I can't wait because we are sweating badly here in Lagos. I so much missed fresh cashew fruit in my village. If there is a way I can waybill it to Lagos without it getting spoilt, I will be doing that steady. Life in the village is sweet especially when you visit occasionally.
Oh the fruits during rainy season is the best part, I agree!
And those ones in the village are far better with natural taste. I love cashews too. I can eat it all day and go about with big tommy full of cashew.*belched
Lols
Hey @nkemakonam89 thanks for your interaction. I trust you're having a great day?
Yea, I am having a great day only that you took my mind back to some amazing memories in my village and I just feeling like having wings to fly there, probably pick some things I am craving for and fly back to Lagos 🤩🤩
Hahaha I can already imagine the kind of things you'd be picking.
Don't even start again 🤩 otherwise I will give you list of things to bring back to me!!!!!
Me way dey my house for lagos
Lol
I love traveling to village because there in village you can eat as many fruits you want
Yes o. Straight from the farm. No fertilizer, just natural and sweet.
I am a corn eater... and always have it as a staple.
I also like it grilled.
YUM! Summer is the time for corn,
and during Summer I always buy corns fresh.
During times when I can't have it fresh,
they are available frozen!
Thanks for sharing, @ozohu.
Frozen corn is luxury here. Most of us wait till its in season then we eat as much as we want.
Grilled corns are ever so delicious.
