Baby's Oral Hygiene

Brush for fun, don't brush for brushing sake. That's what they said. In fact her father is of the opinion that I let her be after all she's going to loose the cute, pearly white teeth soonest. Did you just roll your eyes? That was my reaction too!

When should a baby start brushing teeth? I must admit that I failed here because it was not until recent did I discover that babies should brush when their first tooth appear. I very much started cleaning her teeth and even gum at a very late time though cleaning of her tongue was something I started much earlier in her newborn life because I didn't like the sight of those very thick white layer on other babies' mouth when they cry after taking their immunization shot.

¿Cuándo debe empezar a cepillarse los dientes un bebé? Debo admitir que fallé aquí porque no fue hasta hace poco que descubrí que los bebés deben cepillarse cuando les sale el primer diente. Empecé mucho a limpiarle los dientes e incluso las encías muy tarde, aunque la limpieza de su lengua fue algo que comencé mucho antes en su vida de recién nacido porque no me gustaba ver esa capa blanca muy gruesa en la boca de otros bebés cuando lloran después de vacunarse.

As time passed by, my baby would not allow me clean her teeth with plain water and wool that I normally use. In fact she started to bite my finger. I asked a chemist (a mini drug store owner) around me who is also a mother by the way, and she was like, I should add little salt to the water. In her opinion, the taste of the salt will entice her and make her open her mouth. I felt this was wrong in every sense of it because I have read a lot of articles that says no salt or sugar for at least the first year of life.

Con el paso del tiempo, mi bebé no me permitía limpiarle los dientes con agua corriente y lana que uso normalmente. De hecho, empezó a morderme el dedo. Le pregunté a un químico (propietario de una mini farmacia) a mi alrededor que, por cierto, también es madre, y me dijo que debería agregar un poco de sal al agua. En su opinión, el sabor de la sal la seducirá y la hará abrir la boca. Sentí que esto estaba mal en todos los sentidos porque he leído muchos artículos que dicen que no hay sal ni azúcar durante al menos el primer año de vida.

I got my baby her first tooth brush and tooth paste few days back after I read an article that says to brush a baby's tooth as soon as its out. Am happy I did this because brush time is no longer a struggle as she is now happy to brush because of the toothpaste flavor.

Le compré a mi bebé su primer cepillo de dientes y pasta de dientes hace unos días después de leer un artículo que dice que hay que cepillar el diente de un bebé tan pronto como se le salga. Estoy feliz de haber hecho esto porque el tiempo de cepillado ya no es una lucha, ya que ahora está feliz de cepillarse debido al sabor de la pasta de dientes.

The instruction on the label says to use pea size but I use well below pea size since she obviously would not attempt to spit it out. As much as am happy she now allows me to brush her teeth, I can't help but feel concerned for the mere fact that she lick it all.

La instrucción en la etiqueta dice usar tamaño de guisante pero yo uso muy por debajo del tamaño de guisante ya que obviamente ella no intentaría escupirlo. Aunque estoy feliz de que ahora me permita cepillarle los dientes, no puedo evitar sentirme preocupado por el mero hecho de que lo lama todo.

Its good to know she's started cultivating the habit of observing good oral hygiene.

Es bueno saber que ha comenzado a cultivar el hábito de observar una buena higiene bucal.
