Patience Is A Virtue - LOH #179
"Learning patience can be a difficult experience, but once conquered, you will find life is easier."
Catherine Pulsifer
Among the many things I have learned from my mom, patience happens to be one of them, not through her lecturing me but through her actions and watching her.
I grew up in a large family—that kind of family where all my dad's brothers and cousins were schooling and leaving with us. Apart from that, our house was a transit area for all of my dad's relatives who were traveling. I don't know if it was because of the city we were staying in or because my dad has a kind and generous heart, so every kind of annoying person was always visiting our house every other week.
I saw how, in times of chaos, my mom remained calm and composed, tackling every challenge she faced with grace and perseverance.
I saw how family members frustrated her efforts and kind gestures, but through it all, she still had reassuring smiles on her face.
I remember one time I was angry at how she was treated by one of my uncles, and I told her to reciprocate back, an eye for an eye, but she responded that two wrongs cannot make a right and told me that patience is a virtue that is worth cultivating.
As I navigate through life's journey, my mom's way of life has taught me that being patience is about maintaining a positive attitude and trusting the process. I have also learned about resilience, empathy, and the importance of staying grounded amidst life's challenges.
As the years go by, I have seen how some of my uncles are the ones coming through for her when she's in need and also saying a lot of positive things about my mom even in her absence.
I will forever be grateful to her for leaving such a life worth emulating and for shaping me into a more patient and compassionate individual.
