Boudoir

Ella Ondron
Hello Hivernauts
In the midst of the digital era, the word Boudoir has taken on a significant meaning in photography, especially in Mexico. But recently, this word has caused a notorious uproar in the photographic universe after being registered by a Homo sapiens who responds to the name of Jorge Lara. Does that name sound familiar to you? If so, you may have heard about the controversy that has shaken the foundations of photography in Mexico, a controversy that has exploded like dynamite, generating intense debates and bewildering more than one person with its scope and consequences.
If you are a photographer, Jorge Lara's story will interest you. If you are a digital marketing specialist, you will be fascinated to discover the impact that this "legal" nonsense has caused. And if you simply love photography and the virtual storm, I bet this article will deepen your knowledge and move to the beat of your emotions. So, are you ready to unravel this tangle of controversy, reactions, and challenging competition?

What is the origin of the controversy? Jorge Lara and the boudoir registration
Jorge Lara, a talented Mexican photographer, decided to raise his game to the next level and in a way that many would have never thought of: registering the -Boudoir in Mexico- trademark with the Mexican Institute of Industrial Property (IMPI). Yes, you read that right. This name, which is commonly synonymous with intimate portraits celebrating the female body, in the blink of an eye became the property of a single person in the Republic of Mexico.
Strange as it may seem, the fact would have no transcendence if it were not for the media action of a technology giant like META, which began to systematically close accounts on Facebook and Instagram that had the term Boudoir in their Nickname. The reason? It seems that trademark protection under its copyright policy forces META to comply with this photographer's requests to delete those accounts.

Result? Collective indignation
The reaction to such a situation was one of resounding discontent and total indignation. Users on social media were affected by the removal of their accounts, seeing their precious followers disappear, the hours of work spent on editing and curating content, as well as their online visibility and reputation. The term "Boudoir" was no longer the same, it had been hijacked by a brand and disgraced by a highly questionable corporate policy.

The strong response of photography associations and guilds
It was not just a bad apple in the basket, it was a low blow to the industry. Mexican photography associations and guilds strongly rejected Lara and META's actions, considering them not only abuse but an attempt to eliminate competition.
Jorge Lara's case is not only loosening the screws of photographic practice and digital commerce, but it is also inviting a deep reflection on ethics in business, limits, and intellectual property rights.

And now, we come to a critical point. Was this a brilliant marketing strategy or a low blow to the photography industry? As experts in marketing and photographers, what can we learn from this situation and how could we prevent it from happening in the future? As a community, do you think we should accept this forced change or fight it together? I invite you to share your thoughts and opinions in this discussion. We are facing a new scenario that needs to be questioned, so let's make our voices vibrate in concert.
Disclaimer: These pictures are of my authorship, they have no relation with the work of Mr. Jorge Lara. I have only used them to illustrate the Boudoir style of photography for this post.

The model in this Black and White look is quite eye-catching and she has given it some pretty good styling.
