YouTube Doubler Scams are Still Alive and Kicking in 2022
Its amazing that Youtube, part of the big tech companies are still showing these scams in their platform. With all the resources they have, it seems that they cannot stop scammers hunting for new victims in their platform. But they can shadow ban, ban, or suspend legitimate YT creators (how does that work?).
Although you can see this type of scam in other social networks. YouTube is still the platform that most of these scammers use.
For the rookie crypto investor or those unaware of this scam, the scam works like other crypto doubler sites. The scammer creates a new channel impersonating prominent people and makes a live video showing old conference videos of prominent people in the crypto or financial world. Elon Musk, owner of Tesla and a big supporter of Bitcoin and DOGE coin and also the incoming new owner of Twitter is one of the most used person in these type of scam. The video has the title of a made up news & event and the video includes a template of how to participate and how much your supposedly getting in return. Some vids show you a QR code where you send your crypto or asks you to visit a sketchy website where you send your crypto.
These type of scams surfaced on the YT platform way back in 2020 and are able to steal thousands of dollars in Bitcoin (BTC) and Ethereum (ETH) until YT shut's down the channel. However, scammers can easily create a new one again and again until YT shuts it down again. If you search crypto on YT now and set filter to live, you'll see a couple of these scam videos with thousands of viewers.
I am not aware of an app or program where you can artificially pump views in a live feed but if all those viewers are legit, a couple of them surely will lose their crypto (hopefully none). If you do see these appear on your feed, do report it to prevent others from being scammed.
Scams will always be present in the online world and will keep on evolving. Since cryptocurrency is still considered new and trending, it has become the favorite playground for sketchy people. Always do your own research (DYOR) before engaging into anything that is new to you weather it it be a new platform or investment opportunity. Always keep your guard up and keep your assets secures.
If its too good to be true, then it probably is.
Thanks for reading and have a great day.
