The Wall & Historic Center - Sortelha Village / Riding Portugal

Hello everyone and welcome to my blog :-)

The Wall and the historic center.jpg

Before entering Aldeia da Sortelha we stopped at a viewpoint different from any we had previously been to, as it included an exhibition of mosaics. After so many curves and curves, it was good to be able to stop and appreciate this exhibition, which some say is even more spectacular at the end of the day at sunset due to the effect it has on the mosaics. Furthermore, we are treated to a spectacular view, with Serra da Estrela on one side, Serra da Malcata on the other and the Riba-Côa Valley in the middle until reaching Cova da Beira.

Most of the inhabitants live outside the village walls and perhaps that is why it felt so peaceful here and perhaps because it is not a busy summer holiday month.
We walked through each of these streets calmly. We watched artisans, listened to the birds and inside the castle we enjoyed the landscape and felt the cool wind. We were also able to observe the fans and have the little one take a lesson on wind energy and nearby find the clock tower built in 1973.

We got back in the car and went to a place that, as soon as I saw the name, reminded me of when I was little and we came to Serra da Estrela. I have lots of photos here and I can't believe we passed by Sortelha so many times and didn't go visit it.
In this treeless area with uneven terrain, there are many granite rocks with somewhat strange shapes.

The wind and rain shaped these rocks, giving them curious appearances that seem like something out of a fantasy story, beautifying the landscape around Sortelha. Many of these rocks have interesting names and some are linked to local legends. Here, the famous Cabeça da Velha stands out, a rock that resembles the face of an elderly person.

I picked up the phone and immediately sent a photo to the family group and the reactions were quick. Everyone recognized it and it's strange to think that a few years ago I was the one walking around here with my parents and now I'm here with my husband and our daughter. Time passed very quickly but some things remain in their place, resistant to all the adversities of mother nature.

I hope that in a few years, if she so wishes, she will be able to be here and remember the same thing! Our country is brutal, full of history, legends, nature, wonderful places. Each time I continue to believe that before we go and see what we have outside, we must know what we have inside! Tomorrow I'm back but with a new location!

I hope you enjoyed.
See you around.
Wishing you much peace and health
