The Marina - Vila Real de Stº António / Riding Portugal

Hello everyone and welcome to my blog :-)

marina.jpg

We left the center and explored the Marginal and Marina of Vila Real de Santo António, a space next to the Guadiana River, which offers us a unique view of the border that separates Portugal and Spain. The proximity to the river and the view of the Spanish banks gave a feeling of connection between two countries, something I always found incredible. When I was younger, everything seemed further away to me and it's right next door.

Our daughter, curious, didn't take long to fix her eyes on the boats moored at the marina. They were of various sizes and types, each with its own story. As we slowly walked along the shore, she stopped for a moment, fascinated by a beautiful sailboat bobbing in the waters. It was then that a man, who seemed to be the owner of the boat, approached us with a welcoming smile. Noticing the girl's interest, she kindly invited us on board for a short visit.
Surprised by the generosity, we boarded the boat.
The man told us that he spent much of his time there, enjoying the freedom that life on the river gave him. Our daughter listened attentively, and her eyes roamed every corner.

After saying goodbye to the friendly gentleman and his little boat, we resumed our walk along the shore. We were accompanied by the gentle breeze and the sound of gentle waves lapping the piers. The environment is peaceful, but at the same time full of life, with locals and tourists getting on and off the ferry and taking walks.

As a child we always came to take the boat and cross to the neighboring city of Ayamonte, on the other side of the river, in Spain. We always took the opportunity to explore Ayamonte, a charming city, with narrow streets and a typically Andalusian atmosphere. And I won't forget that there was a huge jelly bean store where every year my father gave us 1 kg of jelly beans each and that we had to hide until the end of the holidays or everyone would eat them and they wouldn't even get to the north.

Crossing the river is a brief experience, and we can see jellyfish following the boat. I felt it would be something fun to share with our daughter, and we were already planning that on a next visit, we would cross over so she could see the river from a new perspective.

I was a little sad that I couldn't do it that day and I hope that next year I can show you the other side. I look forward to seeing how the Spanish side has evolved and finding out if that gum shop is still there. If so, she will be the one who will choose a kilo of jelly beans and I promise I won't eat them secretly.

PT

I hope you enjoyed.
See you around.
Wishing you much peace and health

The more posts I read from you, the more I want to go to Portugal! - It has been very high on my list for some time... I even almost moved there in 2019. But then it disappeared from my list for some reason and here you are - reminding me! Seems like you are having a great time there @onyfest. Congrats on being at the top 3 once again.
