After exploring Serpa Castle, we continued our tour of the charming city. The robust walls that surround the castle bear witness to battles and conquests, and from the top of the keep, the panoramic view over the Alentejo fields is simply stunning.

Após explorar o Castelo de Serpa, prosseguimos o nosso passeio pela encantadora cidade. As muralhas robustas que rodeiam o castelo são testemunhos de batalhas e conquistas, e do alto da torre de menagem, a vista panorâmica sobre os campos do Alentejo é simplesmente deslumbrante.

We leave the castle behind, we follow the crooked and cobblestone streets, where the white of the traditional houses contrasts with the blue of the sky. Serpa, with its picturesque and welcoming atmosphere, invites you to a peaceful walk.
The next stopping point was the Serpa Aqueduct, an engineering work built in the 17th century. The elegant arcades, which stretch for several hundred meters, were used to transport water to the city. Walking under these arcades is like walking through a fragment of history.

Deixamos o castelo para trás, seguimos pelas ruas tortas e empedradas, onde o branco das casas tradicionais contrasta com o azul do céu . Serpa, com o seu ar pitoresco e acolhedor, convida a um passeio tranquilo.
O próximo ponto de paragem foi o Aqueduto de Serpa, uma obra de engenharia construída no século XVII. As arcadas elegantes, que se estendem por várias centenas de metros, serviam para transportar água até à cidade. Caminhar sob essas arcadas é como percorrer um fragmento da história.

We continue and arrive at the Convento de São Francisco, an old convent that dates back to the 15th century. Nowadays it houses several cultural initiatives, preserving its connection with the community life of Sergipe.

Continuamos e chegámos ao Convento de São Francisco, um antigo convento que remonta ao século XV. Hoje em dia alberga várias iniciativas culturais, preservando a sua ligação com a vida comunitária de Serpa.

A few meters away, we visited the Church of Santa Maria, a Romanesque monument that was progressively altered over the centuries, acquiring Manueline and Baroque features. The interior is illuminated by colorful stained glass windows, which create a spiritual and contemplative atmosphere. Near the church is the Watch Museum, the only one of its kind in Portugal, which houses an impressive collection of watches from various eras and styles. Each piece seems to tell a story of time, in a city that seems to resist its passage.

A poucos metros dali, visitámos a Igreja de Santa Maria, um monumento românico que foi progressivamente alterado ao longo dos séculos, adquirindo traços manuelinos e barrocos. O interior é iluminado por vitrais coloridos, que criam uma atmosfera espiritual e de contemplação. Perto da igreja, encontra-se o Museu do Relógio, único no seu género em Portugal, que acolhe uma impressionante coleção de relógios de várias épocas e estilos. Cada peça parece contar uma história do tempo, numa cidade que parece resistir à sua passagem.

Along the walk, it was also possible to observe the numerous doors and towers of the walls, which once defended the city. The Beja Gate is one of the best preserved examples, offering a clear view of the old fortification that surrounded the city.
Ao longo do passeio, foi possível observar também as inúmeras portas e torres das muralhas, que outrora defendiam a cidade. A Porta de Beja, é um dos exemplares mais bem preservados, oferecendo uma visão clara da antiga fortificação que rodeava a cidade.

Finally, our route ended in the charming square, in front of the Municipal Chamber. We sat in one of the cafes and, in the shade of the trees that decorate the historic center, enjoyed a delicious queijada typical of Sergipe. The smooth dough and sweet filling, with a touch of local cream cheese, sweetened this end of the day.

Por fim, o nosso percurso terminou na charmosa praça, em frente à Câmara Municipal. Sentámo-nos num dos cafés e, à sombra das árvores que decoram o centro histórico, saboreámos uma deliciosa queijada típica de Serpa. A massa suave e o recheio doce, com um toque de requeijão local, adoçou este fim de dia.

Serpa is a city where history, culture and gastronomy complement each other, providing anyone with a memorable experience, a true pearl in the heart of Alentejo.
