Seaside Village of Porto Covo - Sines // Riding Portugal

Hello everyone and welcome to my blog :-)

seaside village of Porto Covo.jpg

We wake up early to the noise of people on the street who rise early here. The fresh morning air brought with it the scent of sea air, and we couldn't wait to explore this enchanting corner of Portugal. After a light breakfast, we hopped in the car and headed off, excited about the prospect of a day at the beach and discovery.

The road that took us to Porto Covo ran parallel to the sea, offering us stunning views of the jagged coastline and the blue waters of the Atlantic. The Alentejo landscape was serene and enchanting, with its vast golden plains, dotted here and there with cork oaks and olive trees, contrasting with the intense blue of the sky. As we approached the village, we began to see small coves and beaches hidden between the cliffs, inviting and almost secret.

We arrived in the morning, with the sun already high in the sky. The first thing that struck us was the simplicity and charm of this fishing village. The white houses with red roofs, the narrow streets and sidewalks, and the walls decorated with vibrantly colored bougainvillea created an almost picturesque setting. We decided to explore the town center first, before heading to the beaches.

The streets were lively, with tourists strolling and exploring the shops and cafes that line the sidewalks. Local commerce is varied and colorful, with little shops selling handicrafts, beach clothes, and regional products, such as honey and olive oil from Alentejo. We stopped at a cozy terrace to have a coffee and watch the world go by. Life in Porto Covo seems to flow at its own pace, relaxed and pleasant, and it is easy to feel welcomed by the local hospitality.

After a relaxing walk through the center, we headed towards the beaches. Porto Covo is known for its wildly beautiful beaches, and we couldn't be more excited to discover them. The first one we visited was Praia Grande, as the name suggests, it is one of the largest and most popular in the region. The beach has fine golden sand, with a generous length that allows you to find a peaceful place, even on the busiest days. The sea was calm and inviting, with shades of blue that varied with the sunlight. We spent some time relaxing on the sand and taking a few refreshing dips in the crystal clear waters.

Later we decided to explore other coves along the coast. We went to Praia dos Buizinhos, a small bay hidden between cliffs, where the rocks form natural pools that make it the perfect place for those looking for peace. The water here is even clearer, almost transparent, and the silence is broken only by the gentle sound of waves hitting the rocks. Sitting on the sand, with the sea in front of us, we felt immense peace.

Upon returning to the village, in the late afternoon, we returned to the center to explore some more. Porto Covo's main square was now full of life, with families and groups of friends enjoying the late afternoon heat. We decided to have dinner at one of the local restaurants, specializing in fresh fish and seafood. We chose an outdoor table, where we could watch the sunset turn the sky orange and pink. The grilled fish we ordered, accompanied by a chilled white wine, was the perfect end to an unforgettable day.
