Herdade da Comporta - Wines & Rice Tour // Riding Portugal

Hello everyone and welcome to my blog :-)

wine & rice.jpg

Let's continue our visit to the village of Comporta so you can get to know a little more about this beautiful place. As I mentioned before, we chose to spend our holidays here so we had time to explore and make the most of what Comporta has to offer.
A new restaurant opened right next to the house. Straw baskets and rustic wooden furniture showed the skill of the region's artisans who made up the space. Each piece seemed to tell a story, and we were enchanted by the simplicity and beauty of natural materials.

We went to buy a popsicle and headed to the Rice Museum, one of the most fascinating spots in Comporta. Located in an old rice drying complex, the museum offers a dive into the history of the production of this cereal, so essential to local identity. As soon as we enter, we are enveloped by the aroma of old wood and the peaceful atmosphere of the space.

The museum features in-depth exhibits on rice cultivation and harvesting, from traditional methods to modern practices. The old machines, the black and white photographs, and the utensils used by farmers transported us to a time when rice production was the heart of life in Comporta. We understand the economic and cultural importance of rice for the region. It is possible to see extensive rice fields outside!

However, we still had a lot to explore. The next stop was Wine and Spirits Garcias wine store, a true treasure for wine connoisseurs. Outside there was a small bar with a terrace for anyone who wanted to enjoy a drink and rest a bit. The store is very elegant and cozy and displayed an impressive variety of wines on the well-organized shelves. We were greeted by an employee who guided us through a tasting. We had the opportunity to taste some of the region's best wines, including whites and reds that reflected the deep, rich flavors of the Alentejo. I personally really like white wine and being able to try other varieties was really fun. Each bottle had its own story, and it was fascinating to discover the different vineyards and production methods that made each wine unique.
Here we were able to see some bottles of whiskey that we have at home and other very expensive ones that were stored in a special room that was not open to the public.

We chose some bottles to take and toast the sunset in our little corner. The store also offered a selection of spirits and gourmet products, and we couldn't resist purchasing some artisanal chocolates to complement our choices.
Santini brand ice creams are also part of the range of products that can be purchased here, however, and as we chose to do this walk and given the heat, we chose not to bring them.

We returned home, prepared our terrace to enjoy the sunset. We opened a bottle and sat there enjoying the moment. It's true that we need to disconnect from time to time to reconnect and this was one of those moments.

I hope you enjoyed.
See you around.
Wishing you much peace and health
