Casais do Douro is a small village that we found by chance, during our incessant search for the almond trees in bloom that paint the Douro landscapes white and pink. This unexpected discovery took us to a place so enchanting and immersed in nature that it almost took our breath away. The village, modest in size, is situated in one of the most stunning settings we have ever seen, where the green of the terraces blends with the brightness of the Douro River that flows gently below. A piece of tranquility, lost in time, which seemed to have been tailor-made for moments of contemplation.

The Douro terraces are a characteristic feature of this region and become immediately visible as soon as you arrive here. These stone walls, which divide the land into several horizontal layers, create a unique visual effect. The Douro region, known mainly for the production of the famous Port wine, is shaped by these steep cliffs and difficult-to-access terrain. The vineyards, which predominate here, are cultivated along these terraces, which are the solution that the locals found to make the most of the steep, mountainous terrain. The land is so steep that without the construction of terraces it would be impossible to plant any type of crop. This ancient technique allows the vineyards to receive the maximum possible sunlight exposure, which is essential for the production of high-quality wines, and at the same time prevents soil erosion, which is so important in areas with steep slopes.

But the Douro is not only known for its vineyards. In spring, one of the most iconic images of this region are the almond trees in bloom, which become the protagonists of a landscape of unusual beauty. During the months of February and March, these trees spread across the fields, dressed in white and pink tones, creating a stunning contrast with the deep green of the vineyards. The almond trees bloom at this time, making it one of the region's biggest tourist attractions. The exact moment of flowering is awaited by many, as it does not last long. Therefore, anyone who visits the Douro at this time of year has the opportunity to witness a spectacle of rare beauty. Thousands of tourists flock to the Douro at this time to marvel at its landscapes, to stroll among the flower-covered terraces and to take photographs that immortalize the magic of the moment.
