Project Lego - Part 1
For better or for worse, my parents always had a hard time getting rid of things. Especially toys that I played with when I was a kid. Recently, as I was going through the storage room in my dad's basement, I saw the worst of it.
"Hey dad, when's the last time you played Candyland?" I asked with a hint of sarcasm.
After a short pause, he replied, "I didn't even know that was down there."
I figured as much. I didn't even bother to ask him about the Nerf Ping Pong set, or Yahtzee, or the Let's Go Fishing game, or the Toy Story memory game, or...
The memory game is now gone, having been given to the Occupational Therapist at the school where I work. That was the easy one. I don't know what we are going to do with the rest. My dad doesn't like to throw things in the trash. So, we'll have to find some place to donate the rest.
As I continued to go through the little room, I eventually discovered the best of my parent's hoarding. Opening up a plastic tote, there appeared a jumbled pile of the Legos I spent a lot of time playing with as a child.
A flood of pleasant memories filled my mind. It was almost overwhelming. Along with the Legos, there were the actual instruction, too. Lastly, I found the boxes to the two biggest sets I had. One of the boxes was filled with even more Legos.
My initial feeling was to just get rid of all of these pieces. I asked one of the other teachers that I work with and she said she'd gladly take them. But, she also suggested that I could sell these for quite a bit of money. This got me thinking. 🤔 🤑
At home that night, I pulled out the Legos again. I also pulled out the boxes to the big sets I once built. Looking at the pictures on the boxes, seeing the completed sets, the nostalgia started to build up inside of me.
When I started to flip through the instruction books, another feeling began to build up. I could rebuild these! It would be a daunting task, with the pieces being all jumbled together with every other set I owned. Plus, I don't even know if all of the pieces are even there.
I looked at the boxes again. At that point, I knew I was going to try. I had to. The urge is too strong. My first task is to sort through the Legos and remove anything non-Lego that I find. That is where I'm currently at.
Soon after, I will start with the smaller of the two sets, Eldorado Fortress.
Once the fortress is complete, I will turn my attention to what was my prized set...Black Monarch's Castle.
I couldn't find the instructions for the Monarch's castle. Fortunately, they are available online and I downloaded the PDF. The back of the box shows additional models that can be built with this set. I don't recall there ever being instructions on how to build those. And, I couldn't find them online.
This is fine. The castle is what I want to build anyway. I will post updates on my progress during this endeavor. Hopefully, part 2 will feature a completed Eldorado Fortress. Stay tuned.
Wherever we are, we are surrounded by nature. It's always trying to communicate with us. Take time to notice. #NoticeNature.

Those are cool! Do those cannons actually fire and did you wage epic battles between the two sets you were younger? 😁
I love to hear that you're going to build them again. So happy that you found your old Legos and they brought back those memories for you and I hope that you have fun! 💜
Sorry, waging battles between sets from two different systems, especially ones from different eras, is a violation of Lego law. 🤨
Ah! Gotcha. Don't want the might of the force's finest coming for you. 😉
