My Very First Earning: I Bought My JAMB Form
Hello, everyone.
Welcome to my blog and another wonderful edition of the Hive Learners' featured post. Words cannot express the feelings that come with one's very first earnings; after you receive the money, you get a different feeling entirely. Mine came with restlessness; I couldn't sleep throughout the night, but I was extremely happy.
After showing my parents, I kept it in my suit pocket, and every day I go back to check if it's still there. 😂. Anytime I remember how I acted after I received my first pay, I just laugh at myself and thank God for how far I have come.
After I graduated from high school in 2017, things were not going well with my parents, and I was asked not to sit for the JAMB exams that same year since there were no funds to cater for them if I eventually got the admission. Instead of staying at home, I enrolled in a computer training class, where I was whileing away time while waiting for the following year.
As if the hard times we were passing through were not enough, towards the end of the same year, my dad fell victim to a scam with the money he had saved up for business. Things got even worse, and the time they promised I was going to sit for jamb was fast approaching.
I rounded up my computer programming class, learned how to make use of Corel Draw and Excel, and learned how to type. Since I was done with the program, the next thing was to sit for JAMB, and my parents were trying to convince me to wait another year. I turned them down and told them I was going to look for a way out on my own.
I approached some friends, and they told me how much they have been earning from working at a construction site. They were paid 1,500 Naira ($3.26) daily, but you could allow the company to hold it and collect it after 7 days. I needed #4000 for my jamb.
I went home and told my parents about my plans; my mom cried her eyes out that night. She was like, "She's alive, and her son is going to work at a construction site to get something done for himself." On my side, I was going happily, but my parents were sad about it, but my mind is made up.
I left home on a Monday morning to go to the construction site with friends; I did not even feel as if I was away from home. Almost all my friends were there; it was fun, and before you knew it, it was past 7 days and I was due to be paid. On the pay day, I did not come to work; I came to the site with my best outfit. 😂, Payment commenced, and I was called upon.
I entered the engineer's office, and I was given my cool cash #10500 ($22.8). That day was one of my happiest days on earth. I did not even wait for my friends to be paid. I boarded a taxi back home to go and show my parents what I had been able to raise. My mom blessed the money, and I first bought drinks for everyone at home. The rest I kept in my suit, waiting for Wednesday so my friends and I could go and register for Jamb exams.
I used the money I earned from the construction site to buy my jamb form, and when I wanted to start school, there were lots and lots of temptations, but I thank God for how far I have come.

First earning always give us a special feeling. And that feeling can't be described in words. For parents it's their desire to see their children to be a self dependent person and I am sure that your parents felt proud because of you. But at the same time there felt sad also because you have to take responsibility in an early age.
This is very true, they were happy and sad at the same time. Thanks for reading.
