Maintaining Our Traditional Way of Reading
Hello, everyone.
Welcome to my blog and another wonderful edition of the Hive Learners' featured post. Technology has affected every aspect of life, some negatively and some positively. The fact is, technology will continue to evolve, and our traditional ways of doing things will become history someday.
In as much as technology has made reading and studying very easy, most of us find it very difficult to study using our smartphones or our computers. Instead, we are willing to still maintain our traditional way of reading with our paperbacks to get the knowledge that we need.
It is true that we can gain unlimited knowledge when we read from an ebook, but some of us just can't help but want to stick with our traditional way of reading. It takes someone with a lot of self-discipline to be able to read from an ebook without getting distracted.
Sometime ago, I tried reading with my smartphone, and I realized I am not disciplined enough to practice that. With each notification that popped up from Facebook, I found myself going to check it out, and from there, I replied to messages. I did not even read for up to 30 minutes, and I lost interest in reading because friends were online.
There are people that find it interesting to read stuff from an e-book or on the internet, and alongside them are people that won't even try reading anything online or from an e-book. We are all humans, but we have different opinions about where we can read from.
Some people can actually say you are primitive just because you cannot adapt to some of the advancements technology has brought your way. The truth is, we are all different. There are certain things I can adapt to that you can't, and vice versa.
Distraction: Just like I said earlier, I cannot read from a digital device without getting distracted. Sometime ago, during exams, I was reading from my phone when a WhatsApp message popped up. I immediately opened the message with the intention of getting back to my reading immediately after replying to it. Long story short, that was where my reading ended for the day.
Screen Light: The screen light entering my eyes can sometimes cause tears to start rolling down my cheeks, and constantly looking at the screen of a digital device can cause my head to ache. Reading with paperbacks won't cause me headaches; it is old but gold.
Comfortability: I feel more comfortable when I read from my paperbacks compared to when I read from an ebook or digital device. There are certain positions I can hold when reading from my paperbacks that I cannot hold when I read from an ebook.
In a nutshell, the knowledge gained when reading from an ebook can be limitless, but that does not make it any better than reading from our paperbacks. Reading from paperbacks can be quite interesting and enjoyable, as you can even lie down and do so, but reading from ebooks won't allow you to do that.
Thanks for reading my post.
A traditional man💯
Paperbacks are nice way though. I see reasons with you.
About the distraction one can get from social media, I will advise you try freezing those apps that can easily get you distracted so as when surfing the internet, messages won't pop up from those sites.
I guess I will have to try freezing those apps and see if I can actually focus on what I am reading.
Thanks for stopping by.
You are welcome my boss
How about studies
You are right. We are all different and our preferences differs. People wonder how I read comfortably on my phone without being distracted. The only thing I do is that I discipline myself by enabling the do not disturb mode and no notification will pop up until I am done.
Some people still can't keep up with this because they aren't used to reading digitally. So, no one should blame them.
Though, the disadvantage there is the eye problem it caused but one has to try limiting the numbers of duration spent on doing that and giving yourself rest.
I am one of those that can't, I will keep hearing voices asking me to check WhatsApp messages 😂. I will struggle to overcome and along the line give in.
