Welcome to my blog and another wonderful edition of the Hive Learners' featured post. So many inventions were made for different purposes, but right now people are digressing from the main purpose for which they were invented and making use of them wrongly. Inventions are put out to make life easier for humans, but in turn, humans use these inventions wrongly and, in the end, suffer the harm that comes with using the invention wrongly.

Sometime back, communication was only possible through letters until the invention of the telephone, then we moved to the cellphone, and now we have smartphones. This has made communication so easy, to the point that we can communicate with people from around the globe just by turning our data on. The invention was to make communication a lot easier, which it did, but we now use it for different purposes, and it's slowly eating us up.

I read through the prompt, and what came to mind was how easy smartphones have made communication and how the invention of smartphones has helped mankind. The invention of smartphones was good, but the underlying dangers attached to them can only be seen by a few people. Many people are now addicted to smartphones. It has made communication easy, but the rate at which people get addicted to it is alarming, especially youths.

The time they are supposed to invest in their future or do something important is all spent on smartphones, moving from one social media app to the next, playing games, and seeing movies. Students nowadays find it very difficult to read, all because they own a smartphone and don't want to drop it down for a minute and pick up their books. Sometime back, I watched a video online where a girl's parents were complaining about how addicted she's to her phone and no longer carry out chores in the house all because she's always on her smartphone. It annoyed me that she even went as far as making a video of them complaining.

Addiction is one of the underlying dangers attached to the invention of smartphones. When we traveled home for a holiday, our new neighbor had a daughter who owns a smartphone at a very young age. Every day you hear her getting scolded for either preparing dinner late or she prepared dinner but forgot she was cooking and the food got burned. All these things happen because she's either getting carried away by chatting or watching skits on Facebook.

The parents have collected her phone countless times, but in the end they give it back to her as it's their only way to reach her, but she, on her end, cannot get rid of her addiction to her smartphone. Nobody is saying the invention of smartphones is bad, but we humans should know when to be on our phones and when we shouldn't be on our phones. Just as they say there's a time for everything, it can also help our sight, as excess screentime has its own effect.

Some are even on their phones while they walk on the street; a car or a bike can hit you from nowhere. Why not let go of your phone for a few minutes until you are off the street?
