Los hijos cuando están pequeños, son como diminutos huracanes que azotan la tranquilidad de la casa donde habitan. Dejan a su paso un gran rastro de destrucción y contaminación sónica que perturban la paz de las personas que habitan con ellos el mismo espacio geográfico. No hay quien pueda detenerlos porque su paso es inminente como las fuerzas naturales que azotan al planeta, es parte de la naturaleza de los niños ser agentes de destrucción y caos.
Supongo que de la misma manera en que se diferencian los huracanes de los tifones y los ciclones, los padres del Atlántico norte, El Caribe y el nororiente del Pacífico les llamamos a nuestros pequeños huracanes; por lo tanto en el noroccidente del Pacífico les llaman tifones, y en el suroriente del océano Índico y en el Pacífico suroeste les han de llamar ciclones. En fin todos son unas tormentas en miniatura que ejercen las mismas funciones que el titán caído Tifón, y que los vientos de Noto —mitología griega—.
Es una forma de ser que tienen todos los niños por naturaleza debido a que están comenzando a dar sus primeros pasos en el mundo, uno que no conocen y que tienen toda la curiosidad y voluntad de explorarlo; hasta que llegamos los adultos a poner los límites. Unos llegan a ser muy estrictos y radicales en cuanto a colocarle límites a los niños, tanto así que llegan a traumarlos de por vida, que serían el 98% de los casos aproximadamente.
Hay padres y madres que maltratan la curiosidad de los niños con sus mentes cuadradas de adultos: No rayes la pared, no rompas las revistas, no brinques en la cama, no grites, no cantes, no hables, no preguntes. Siendo esta última la más grave negación que podemos hacerle a un niño. Obviamente hay cosas que debemos negarles a los niños pos su seguridad y bienestar, como por ejemplo el ingerir químicos peligrosos, el jugar con el fuego, la electricidad o en lugares de alto riesgo donde puedan salir seriamente lastimados. Pero hay quienes por ignorancia le prohiben a los niños cosas que no se deberían negárseles, como por ejemplo el conocimiento y la buena enseñanza.
Cuando un niño pregunta sobre algo cotidiano es porque no lo conoce o tiene dudas al respecto, pero dentro de nuestra ignorancia asumimos que ya el lo conoce y que simplemente está preguntando por molestar, lo vemos como un fastidio. Igualmente cuando un niño dibuja sobre una pared, o rompe un papel, o lanza una taza al suelo y la rompe, no lo hace por molestar, sino más bien porque está experimentando con la naturaleza de las cosas a su alrededor, y cada vez que destroza algo lo hace para aprender sobre lo que está haciendo. Es muy importante saber enseñar a nuestros huracanes las consecuencias de su paso por la casa.
Hay quienes apoyan y quienes no a la violencia infantil, pero es un tema irrelevante porque lo que importa aquí es que se sepa enseñar a los niños partiendo de las cosas que hacen, no regañarlos ni golpearlos y mucho menos ignorarlos, sino enseñarlos. Es importante mantener la curiosidad de las personas despierta porque sino cuando lleguen a la edad adulta van a ser sólo sujetos miedosos que nunca se van a atrever a conocer y experimentar el mundo que les rodea, por supuesto que para esto debe tenerse una base ética y moral que nos guíe por las cosas para determinar cuales pueden ser de provecho para nosotros como individuos, y cuales nos perjudican.
Por eso cuando veo la tormenta que azota mi hogar, y admiro la destrucción que deja a su paso sólo me queda sonreír y pensar en que esa vida que está por ahí caminando a tropezones, regando todos los juguetes en cada rincón, cambiando las cosas de lugar en donde mejor le parecen que van, derramando la comida y el agua, incluso llenando algunas partes y hasta a uno mismo de sus desechos físicos; solamente está experimentando este mundo que jamás ha conocido, y que todo para él o para ella no tiene una connotación maniqueísta como la tenemos nosotros sobre todo lo que hacemos, simplemente van por ahí haciendo cosas para saber como suena, como se siente, como huele, como se ve, como hace todo de todas formas. Ellos sólo van por ahí dejando sus impresiones artísticas sobre todo aquello que nosotros consideramos correcto.

Children, when they are small, are like tiny hurricanes that whip the tranquility of the house where they live. They leave in their wake a great trail of destruction and sonic pollution that disturb the peace of the people who live with them in the same geographical space. There is no one who can stop them because their passage is imminent as the natural forces that scourge the planet, it is part of the nature of children to be agents of destruction and chaos.
I suppose that in the same way that hurricanes are differentiated from typhoons and cyclones, the parents of the North Atlantic, the Caribbean and the Northeast Pacific call them our little hurricanes; therefore in the Northwest Pacific they call them typhoons, and in the Southeast Indian Ocean and in the Southwest Pacific they must be called cyclones. In short, they are all miniature storms that perform the same functions as the fallen titan Typhoon, and the winds of Noto -Greek mythology-.
It is a way of being that all children have by nature because they are beginning to take their first steps in the world, one that they do not know and that they have all the curiosity and will to explore it; until we adults come to set the limits. Some become very strict and radical when it comes to setting limits for children, so much so that they become traumatized for life, which would be approximately 98% of the cases.
There are fathers and mothers who mistreat the curiosity of children with their square adult minds: Do not scratch the wall, do not break the magazines, do not jump on the bed, do not shout, do not sing, do not talk, do not ask questions. The latter being the most serious denial we can give to a child. Obviously there are things that we must deny children for their safety and well-being, such as ingesting dangerous chemicals, playing with fire, electricity or in high-risk places where they can get seriously hurt. But there are those who, out of ignorance, prohibit children from things that should not be denied to them, such as knowledge and good teaching.
When a child asks about something everyday it is because he does not know it or has doubts about it, but in our ignorance we assume that he already knows it and that he is simply asking to annoy, we see it as a nuisance. Likewise, when a child draws on a wall, or tears a piece of paper, or throws a cup on the floor and breaks it, he is not doing it to annoy, but rather because he is experimenting with the nature of the things around him, and every time he destroys something he does it to learn about what he is doing. It is very important to know how to teach our hurricanes the consequences of their passage through the house.
There are those who support and those who do not support child violence, but it is an irrelevant issue because what matters here is to know how to teach children starting from the things they do, not to scold them or hit them and much less to ignore them, but to teach them. It is important to keep people's curiosity awake because otherwise when they reach adulthood they will only be fearful subjects who will never dare to know and experience the world around them, of course for this there must be an ethical and moral basis to guide us through things to determine which can be of benefit to us as individuals, and which are harmful to us.
That is why when I see the storm that hits my home, and I admire the destruction it leaves in its wake, I can only smile and think that this life that is out there stumbling around, watering all the toys in every corner, changing things where they seem to go best, spilling food and water, even filling some parts and even oneself with its physical debris, is only experiencing this world that is never going to be able to live; he or she is just experiencing this world that he or she has never known, and that everything for him or her does not have a Manichean connotation as we have about everything we do, they just go around doing things to know how it sounds, how it feels, how it smells, how it looks, how it does everything anyway. They just go around leaving their artistic impressions about everything that we think is right.
