Greetings friends of the community, today Sunday I return here to bring you a movie that not many people have seen, that not many would be interested in seeing simply because they are not basketball lovers, but if they do not watch it is because they are not lovers of good stories and good movies. It is the story of a player who never became a professional, never played in a world-renowned league, never left any plausible record in the history books about his basketball career, but who is considered by many lovers of the sport as one of the legendary players of the courts of New York in the United States, I consider him the Socrates of basketball in that sense only, because the life he had has nothing to do with that of the philosopher.

It is a film that belongs to that period of the nineties where a truly exceptional cinema was made, and that seems to have its own mark within the history of cinema as, for example, German expressionism, or other artistic currents of cinema, but this particular film is set in the streets of the Big Apple and tells us a story that not only happened once but millions of times, and continues to be repeated over time, the exclusion of the African American population within society, sports promises lost in the consumption of drugs, and some other important issues that are touched around the society of that time.

Undoubtedly, director Eriq La Salle wanted to capture a general idea about the film, although sometimes there were unnecessary or poorly produced scenes in terms of details or bad acting or nonsense dialogues that took away the film's vividness at times. This is not to say that it is a bad movie, but it is not one that stands out precisely because of the direction. Personally I decided to see it because I like sports, and I had read several stories about Earl Manigault but I was never curious to investigate more about the player and his career in particular, I took the opportunity to see the film about his story and I was delighted despite the often fanciful details that are always integrated in films to highlight an aspect of a character to the maximum but sometimes exaggerate.

// Scene from the movie. Don Cheadle plays the role of The Goat, is the one who appears inside the basketball hoop. Fuente/Source: https://m.imdb.com/title/tt0117450/mediaviewer/rm3661642240/

Don Cheadle is a great actor recognized for great roles in famous movies like Ocean's Twelve, Marvel Universe, Space Jam and Hotel Rwanda; besides having worked in television series leaving a wonderful performance as in House of Lies, but when I saw the promotional poster of the film I never imagined that he would play the role of Earl Manigault, it was one of my big surprises. I imagine that when he got that role he wasn't fully recognized as he is these days, but a great performance on his part is very much appreciated, in my opinion that's what stood out and kept the whole movie from going down the hole of bad films. I don't know Earl Manigault's character personally, but he conveyed a very corrupted and influenced by his environment person, who didn't have many opportunities in life because of his skin color, but who also didn't do much to change anything in his destiny.

The Goat was a boy who, it was not very clear to me, but grew up alone with no family support other than his own and that of a lady named Miss Mary, who I never knew who she really was but whom Earl was very fond of. Then appears the mythical Holcombe Rucker, who was in charge of organizing the first semi-professional tournament in Harlem, and that today the tournament and the court still have his name; he was in charge of academically forming The Goat when he had some difficulties at Franklin High School with a coach that was one of the causes for his expulsion, the other was that the school principal found out that Manigault consumed marijuana on the premises. He continued his studies in North Carolina where he tried to get a scholarship to some university, but certain events took him back to Harlem where he met up with old friends who dragged him to drug use more frequently and made him get lost in that world for a long time, Until one day in prison an officer asks him to sign a book on basketball that had an entire chapter on his exploits on the courts of New York, and he decides to leave the world of addiction and return to Rucker Park to continue the legacy of his mentor Holcombe, which was to take the kids of Harlem away from the streets, addictions and direct them to the practice of sports and academic development.

The film has a great message regarding how the poor societies that inhabited the most neglected areas of New York were dragged down by drugs and separated from the opportunities to grow within the American society by the same racism that was lived in the 60's, it is not the main theme of the film, but for the good observer it is a criticism of the system that ruled in those times. Perhaps thanks to people like Holcombe Rucker and later Earl Manigault, was that many players are or were in professional leagues during his career, in addition to having had an academic career that allowed them to defend themselves as individuals before society to many others who could not get to perform as professional players; But the film subtly leaves us with a question that is still going around in my head. How many young men were lost on the streets of Harlem before The Goat because of drugs and racism, and who could have become as great in basketball as the names that the vast majority of people know today, and who are only a past that no one will ever remember?

Translating is really tiresome so kudos to you for helping more people be able to enjoy this Blockchain.

Your post suffers from the way you are editing it, putting both versions of the text side by side create two gigantic and unappealing walltexts. Which gets even worse on mobile.

Try making the full post in one language then right after that you do the same thing with the translated version. This way you can edit better, use headers and dividers and make it easier to read, helping your audience.

Also, smaller paragraphs and more dots, no need for a rundown sentence of 5-6 lines before a dot

Thanks fot the appreciation. I'll take your advices, but there are paragraphs that may not be short, because the content is dense and i need to develope it to make the audience understand well the content and not be like pages on internet that are mediocre or poor for people who valorate well written information, otherwise the books that we read were 40 pages long.

Take care and thank you.

You can keep all the content you wrote and still reduce paragraph size. I'm not saying to cut out parts of your post, I'm saying that you can take your 10 lines paragraphs and use better punctuation, hit the enter key on the middle of it.

Like your reply, you got really big sentences without even a comma, try reading your post/reply out loud without losing breath. It's difficult right?

About well written articles, you can write well and be concise. For sure a succinct 500 word posts is way better than a 3k repetitive.
