Hace unas semanas me contactaron para realizar unas extracciones dentales y posteriormente realizar una prótesis dental en una paciente. Llegó el día de la cita odontologica y conocí a mi paciente, la cual se llama francisca. La señora Francisca es una abuelita de 81 años de edad, que cabe destacar se ve muy joven para su edad. Ella tenía una prótesis dental, la cual estaba en muy mal estado. Aparte necesitaba realizarse una extracción dental. Luego de llenar su historia clínica y tomar todas las previsiones, procedí a realizar la extracción. Todo salió muy bien y la recuperación fue todo un éxito.

A las 2 semanas la señora Francisca volvió a asistir a mi consultorio, esta vez para hacer la evaluación del caso con el técnico dental que iba a realizar las prótesis. Una de las complejidades de hacer esta prótesis es que la paciente no tenía suficiente reborde maxilar para que la prótesis tuviera mayor adaptación y no se moviera al momento de hablar. Era un caso bastante difícil, sin embargo confío mucho en mí técnico dental, ya que hemos trabajado muchos casos similares y hemos tenido buenos resultados. Después de explicarle todo los pasos y las ventajas y desventajas, procedimos a tomar las impresiones para empezar a confeccionar las prótesis. Eran dos prótesis, superior e inferior.

A los 2 días de tomar las impresiones, nuevamente nos visita a la consulta la señora Francisca. Esta vez debiamos realizar una prueba de mordida para replicar exacta su mordida en las nuevas prótesis que ibamos a hacer. Aparte de hacer esto, tambien es muy grato hablar con la señora Francisca, ya que es muy alegre y le gusta conversar. Además que tenía mucha ilusión por sus prótesis y para mi era un placer y una responsabilidad hacer que todo saliera bien.

Tuvimos una tercera cita, en la cual probamos el enfilado de los dientes en su nueva prótesis. Esta prueba consiste en mostrarle al paciente como quedaría su protesis una vez ya terminada y tambien nos ayuda a ver si los dientes de la prótesis estan derechos o en la posición correcta. Esta prueba fue un éxito, porque el tamaño y el color de los dientes era perfecto para su rostro, además que no había mayores cosas que corregir.

Llegó el gran día, la cita final de instalación de las nuevas prótesis. Con mucha alegria y expectativa recibí a la señora Francisca en mi consultorio. Estaba muy emocionada y ya quería ver el resultado final. Hicimos la instalación y el cambio fue increíble. Probamos la adaptación y todo estaba bien, la paciente podía hablar y morder sin ninguna complicación ni molestia. Llegó uno de los momentos mas satisfactorios para mí y es darle el espejo a la paciente y observe su nueva sonrisa. Fue un momento muy emotivo. La señora Francisca quedo complacida con el resultado final, estaba muy alegre y decía que por fin ya iba a poder sonreír. Es uno de los momentos mas bonitos para mi, me llena ver la alegría de mis pacientes.

Amo hacer mi trabajo, la satisfacción es grande cuando ves la alegría de tu paciente por su nueva sonrisa. Nunca es tarde para querer mejorar tu salud bucal. No importa tu situación ni los problemas que tengas, poco a poco puedes mejorar tu sonrisa y hacer ese cambio que tanto deseas. Nunca es tarde, solo debes empezar.

A few weeks ago I was contacted to perform some dental extractions and subsequently perform a dental prosthesis on a patient. The day of the dental appointment arrived and I met my patient, whose name is francisca. Mrs. Francisca is an 81 year old grandmother, who looks very young for her age. She had a dental prosthesis, which was in very bad condition. She also needed a tooth extraction. After filling out her medical history and taking all the necessary precautions, I proceeded to perform the extraction. Everything went very well and the recovery was a success.

Two weeks later, Mrs. Francisca came to my office again, this time to make the evaluation of the case with the dental technician who was going to make the prosthesis. One of the complexities of making this prosthesis is that the patient did not have enough maxillary ridge for the prosthesis to have greater adaptation and not move when speaking. It was a very difficult case, but I trust my dental technician a lot, since we have worked on many similar cases and we have had good results. After explaining all the steps and the advantages and disadvantages, we proceeded to take the impressions to start making the prostheses. There were two prostheses

Two days after taking the impressions, Mrs. Francisca visited us again. This time we had to do a bite test to replicate her exact bite in the new prosthesis we were going to make. Apart from doing this, it is also very nice to talk with Mrs. Francisca, as she is very cheerful and likes to talk. She was very excited about her prosthesis and for me it was a pleasure and a responsibility to make sure that everything went well.

We had a third appointment, in which we tried out the teeth alignment in her new prosthesis. This test consists of showing the patient how his prosthesis would look like once it is finished and it also helps us to see if the teeth of the prosthesis are straight or in the correct position. This test was a success, because the size and color of the teeth was perfect for her face, plus there were no major things to correct.

The big day arrived, the final appointment for the installation of the new prosthesis. With great joy and expectation I received Mrs. Francisca in my office. She was very excited and wanted to see the final result. We did the installation and the change was incredible. We tested the adaptation and everything was fine, the patient could speak and bite without any complications or discomfort. One of the most satisfying moments for me was to give the mirror to the patient and see her new smile. It was a very emotional moment. Mrs. Francisca was very pleased with the final result, she was very happy and of course very happy.

I love doing my job, the satisfaction is great when you see the joy of your patient's new smile. It is never too late to want to improve your oral health. No matter your situation or the problems you have, little by little you can improve your smile and make that change you want so much. It's never too late, you just have to start.
