Morning Delight

Hey there! So this morning I decided to do a light documentation of what I had for breakfast, Akara and pap (akamu) a Nigerian 🇳🇬🇳🇬 delicacy usually eaten in the morning hence the title Morning Delight .

What you can see in this picture I snapped is,

  • pap or Akamu
  • powdered milk already diluted with water
  • Akara
  • sugar
Akara is also known as bean cake as it is derived from carefully puréed beans mixed with onion, pepper and salt. This mixture is then deep fried.

Akamu(pap) is a derivative from fermented corn.

This is what the raw version of pap looks like. It is prepared by dissolving it in little amount of cool water after which hot water is poured on the mixture making it thicken. Then it's served with milk and sugar/honey or can be eaten plain without additives.

This is after the Akamu has been prepared with hot water and here is milk I added cause I don't like eating it plain. I later added little sugar as well.

I call it morning delight because the women who sell Akara and Akamu do so only in the morning. Although it's not my favourite food, it's easy to buy and prepare and it's takes off the stress of thinking about what to have for breakfast most mornings.

You can't get these to buy in the afternoon or at night in the area where I live. I'd also like to add that, just as Akara and Akamu is to morning, Suya is to night 😃. Suya is simply a kind of grilled spicy meat skewer.

So that's it for today🙂 Thank you for reading.
