ROAD TRIP TO THE EAST

I am from the eastern part of Nigeria. However, for the past 10 years I haven't been to the east. I was wondering when I was finally going to find the time or reason to visit until few days back.

When I came back from Camp, I decided that it would be a good idea to go on a vacation, relax and add a little flesh if possible within 2 weeks before I go back to serving my country.

Hence, I embarked on the journey to the Eastern part of Nigeria from the western part of Nigeria. I set out very early on Friday morning so I would be able to board the first bus and reach my destination early enough.

On getting to the car park, the traffic was more than I had anticipated. Some had booked for the vehicles the previous day and therefore were considered first. When it got to my turn, I was told that the vehicles were full and I had to wait for one to be fixed before I can be given tickets.

I felt a bit uneasy because I didn't want to break the journey and I also didn't want to get to my destination at night for security reasons. I sat down and waited for about 30 minutes with a few others before we were called for our tickets. Happy to finally get a place in the bus, I bought my ticket and went outside to wait to be called into my position along with the others.

At this point I was already so hungry. I bought rice and stew to eat when the journey starts.

After a short while, we were called to sit according to our sit number and we started our journey at exactly 8:30am.

The journey was a really smooth one. We passed through Edo state, Delta state, and then Anambra state. On getting to Anambra, the first site was that of River Niger and its bridge.

It felt good to see it again after about 10 years away from the East. It brought back old memories.

When we were very little, my mum would wake us all up when we got to the bridge to look out the window. We would admire the River Niger in so much Awe.

It's been over 10 years and it looked exactly like it always has.

After Some of the passengers dropped at Onitsha and Awka in Anambra state. The rest of us continued to Enugu state which was my destination.

It felt so good to be in the midst of my people once again. Every corner I looked was a reminder of how it used to be when I was growing up in the East. I kept on smiling. I was so happy to be there.

I got to the house, showered and ate freshly prepared goat meat stew and rice.

I only stayed for about 5 days in the east before heading back to the west but every single day of my stay was remarkable!

I ate the native foods I've missed and even the fruits that wasn't found anywhere in the west. It was a well deserved vacation.

On the day I was supposed to leave, I became somewhat emotional. I didn't want to leave but I just had to. I bought a few native snack with me and in no time, I was on my way back.

I miss the East so much!
When I finally settle down, I really hope I'll be able to visit more frequently.

What do you think guys?
