MY COVID VACCINATION EXERCISE

Hi guys, I recently went for covid 19 vaccination and here’s my experience.

Most people in my area are skeptical about taking the covid 19 vaccine. Some don’t think it's safe while others don’t think they need it.

I didn’t have any particular feeling towards taking the covid vaccine but it wasn’t in my plan to take the vaccine either. I had to go for the vaccination because it is a requirement for every corp member in my country before entering the orientation camps.

Remember the NYSC exercise I talked about in my previous post? (you can check out my profile to read through).

My first attempt to take the covid vaccine was in Lagos around first week in January. I was told to register online first and book for an appointment before appearing at he hospital. I did that and on the appointed date, I went to the hospital. On getting there around 12 in the afternoon, there were too many people. I wasn’t sure if they came for the vaccine or for some other reasons. I made my way to the front to tell the hospital staffs what I came for. They told me that I was late for the day and said I should come around 8am the next day. I went back home, the zeal to take the vaccine lost and I never went back.

Reason being mostly that I couldn’t just make the sacrifice to wake up very early so I would be there by 8am. I decided to take the vaccine in akure since I was travelling there in a few days anyways.

On the 25th of January, 2022, I decided to go to a government hospital In Akure to take the covid vaccine. This time, I didn’t register online. When I got to the hospital, I didn’t meet as much people as I did in Lagos hospital and the vaccination exercise was being done outside the hospital compound. I was asked to sit down and wait my turn.
I looked around and saw people taking the injections. Some people were there for the second dose while others just like me came for the first dose.

When it got to my turn, I was registered online while some of my details was written down in a book and on the covid vaccination card.

After the registration, I went on to take the vaccine. The injection wasn’t as painful as I had imagined. It was just a small sting and I was done.
They asked me to sit still and rest for about 10 to 15 minutes before heading home.

On getting home that day, my dad asked if I was feeling okay. I said I was great and he asked if I was sure the vaccine was authentic because most people tend to feel sick after taking the vaccine. I just joked about how much of a strong girl I am that not even the vaccine can bring me down.

Yesterday, 18th of February, I went back for the second dose of the covid vaccine. This time, it didn’t take long at all since I wasn’t doing any registration again. They simply injected me and I waited for some minutes for them to log in my data online to show that I’ve taken the complete dose. That was it! I got fully vaccinated!

When I got home this time, I realized that I wasn’t too strong for the vaccine effects afterall. I have been feeling weak since yesterday and the point of injection has been so painful. I don’t know how long this is supposed to last. I just hope it subsides soon enough so I can have my life back.

I'm just wondering, does this mean no matter how exposed I am to a patient, I wont be infected anymore?
What do you guys think?

Thanks so much for reading through.

See you in the next post!

Hi lovely @nkechi 😊

It looks like here in Australia we've gone through the vaccine process several months ahead of you guys so I might be able to share some info that I've learned through the process. (Just know that here in Australia, and in probably most countries around the world there are a percentage of the population that is also really sceptical about the vaccine, so you may get conflicting comments on this post if someone who is strongly anti vaccines sees your post. 😐🤨🙄😮😄 Ahhh, the complicated nature of being human 😅).

So, back to what I wanted to say. ☺️ I care a lot about having correct information (so that's where I'm coming from as I answer your questions). I also think we have amazing strong bodies that can deal with viruses well if we take really good care of our bodies and support our immune systems. And we are living in crazy times that require us to do things we might not ordinarily do! 😅

Info:

✨ There are different kinds of vaccines. They all work slightly differently but they're all designed to offer some protection against Covid-19.

✨ Health statistics show that people who have been fully vaccinated have less chance of catching Covid-19 and that if they do catch it, they have less chance of getting really sick or dying. There's a lot of evidence now that this is true.

✨ Everyone has a slightly different reaction to the vaccine (I was sick and tired for a day or two after both my vaccine shots). This is usually because the body (immune system) is trying to fight what has been injected into it. And that's the normal process with a vaccine - the body is learning what to do if it comes in contact with this new virus that human bodies had never seen before November 2019.

✨ Everyone has a slightly different reaction if/when they catch Covid-19.

✨ Different variants of Covid-19 are more or less dangerous than other variants.

✨ Your body won't develop it's greatest immunity until 2 weeks after this vaccine shot so make sure you take extra good care of yourself for the next two weeks.

✨ You'll have the most protection from the virus from after that 2 weeks for a few months going forward. After that your immunity decreases. So the best bet is to keep looking after your immune system (/health of your body!)

I have been feeling weak since yesterday and the point of injection has been so painful. I don’t know how long this is supposed to last. I just hope it subsides soon enough so I can have my life back.

🤗

The injection point for most people stops hurting within one or two days. I felt weak and tired for just two days or so, then I just kept getting better and better. (Though my menstrual cycle/periods were a little bit different for a few months and apparently a lot of women experienced this).

Be gentle and kind to your body @nkechi. It's working hard right now to process the vaccine/virus/information it's been given. The better you take care of your precious body the better and faster it can heal, and the sooner you'll feel better. 😘

Wow! Thanks sooooooo much @consciouscat for this comprehensive and free medical advice. I feel information like this should have been printed in a palmflet and given to us after we took the vaccine if we cannot be verbally addressed because I never knew most of the points you listed out before now.

I'll definitely take good care of my health. I know better now.

Thanks again!

Oh, you're really welcome @nkechi. And just to be super clear; I'm not a doctor, so I can't give medical advice. 😉😆😁 This is simply a collection of all the things I've learned over the last 12 months or so of paying attention to what our governments and health departments have been sharing with us. 🧐

And I am very glad that you found it helpful. 🙏 I hope you continue to feel better and stronger every day moving forward. Keep looking after that precious body of yours, hey? 😍🤗

Hmm... I haven’t gotten any dose yet. I am still skeptical about it. 😂

Lol.. I think it's pretty safe.
So far, I've not heard that someone died from taking the vaccine.

It's all for safety purpose.

Yeah. Great taking the vaccine. From what I've read on the news and what my Grandma in the states passed through and still is, the vaccine doesn't guarantee full immunity. You'd still get sick and well, from the news, some have passed from receiving the vaccine. Well, Africans are always stronger 😂. Talk more of "ajekpako" Nigerian. 🤣

God no go shame us!
