HARMATTAN BLESSINGS
Hello hivers, hope our day is going fine. It's dry/ winter/ harmattan season here so while walking home from the store this morning, I decide to share my harmattan thoughts with you all.
When I was a bit younger, I didn’t like the dry season at all. It came with so much dryness and required us making much more effort to avoid looking dry.
The coldness was to me, unbearable! Having to wake up very early to bath and prepare for school became a big deal. We took our shower with warm water most of the time but when we were late for school and can’t afford to waste time boiling water, we endure the biting and stinging of a cold shower.
One other big deal was the courage to leave the bathroom and that brief time before you apply cream all over your body seems to offer another kind of coldness.
We often apply more cream than usual especially on our hands, legs and face. We applied lip gloss/balm to keep our lips mosturized and even carry them along to apply at different times throughout the day.
Walking out of the house, there was always this cold breeze and dryness felt at every step and every breath we took. The dust was just everywhere. You can’t just go out and come back in peace without being covered with brown dust and looking like someone from the under world!
Now that I’m grown, I surprisingly don’t despise the harmattan season like I used to. Now, I actually see the blessings the harmattan brings.
Despite the dryness, the coldness and the dusts that leaves one looking like they were dug out from the ground, I’ve come to appreciate the absence of heat and frequent sweating.
I sweat a lot and my face becomes oily during the hot season, but with harmattan, I don’t have to worry about all that. When I wash clothes, they dry faster and I don’t have to worry about rain beating them all over again.
Similarly, there's no complaints about muds and sticky roads or even flooding. The dry season might not be the farmers favorite season but it’s the best season for a lot of people.
Each season comes with its merits and supposed demerits but the way I’ve come to see it is that whatever the season brings is simply nature's blessings.
The seasons, wet or dry, are of nature. Nature itself is a blessing and I've made it a pont to appreciate whatever it brings.
As I'm typing this, I'm all covered up because of the cold. I feel the dryness when I take in breaths and I'm thinking of applying some more lip balm on my lips before the harmattan gives it cracks. I also plan to go out for an errand later into the dryness, cold breeze and of course the brown dust!
However, I seem to be handling myself quite alright so I'm not really bothered.
I’ve decided to enjoy the harmattan blessings. It is nature’s gift to us afterall.
What about you? What’s your experience with the harmattan blessings?
Thanks for reading my post. To those of us that are putting extra effort to beat the cold and dryness this period, I would say…. Just hang in there okay?
It's all temporary afterall.

A very interesting post! I have to say that although I love to travel to southern countries, I prefer winter because I can't handle heat that well. Thanks for sharing your thoughts with us!
Well, I've always wondered if I'll be able to handle winter cold as well but I'm willing to explore in the near future.
Thank you for your exciting life story, I am lucky to live in a temperate climate zone, I have never experienced such a harmattan.
The way I see it, each climate zone comes with its merits and discomforts. We only learn to adapt.
Yes you are right
