Pokemon Go: July 2023 Community Day Event Details

Niantic has announced the star Pokémon of the next community day event in July! Poliwag, which is the Water type Pokemon from Generation One (Kanto Region) will be the featured Pokémon and spawn more often during the event Sunday July 30, 2023. This is a blast from the past as it is one of the first Pokémon’s available to catch when first launched seven years ago. Also interestingly that this will have different evolution paths to choose from!

As usual the community day event will last for three hours and will be on a Sunday this time around again from 2pm to 5pm local times. The bonuses during the event will 1/4 hatch distance for Eggs and 2x Candy for catching Pokemon. No other rewards have been announced except for the typical three hour lure duration. However, there will also be a 2x chance for Trainers level 31 and above to get Candy XL from catching as well.

After our trip to Japan, the family continues to play the game as they seek to catch them all given the amount of generations released since we last played so much. I am still catching up on research tasks so hopefully this event will help me achieve some of those tasks that are pending! Last community day was fun to be out catching Pokemon again and getting some shinies.

As usual, you will have a chance to encounter the shiny form of the Pokémon Poliwag in increased probabilities during the event. Since this Pokemon has two Evolution paths, we will get two exclusive attacks this time around! The exclusive charged attack Ice Beam will be gained from evolving Poliwhirl to Politoed (with a King’s Rock) up to five hours after the event has been announced. In addition, the exclusive fast attack Counter will be gained from evolving Poliwhirl to Poliwrath. It will be interesting to see how much interest this gets from the community this month.
