Parque La Paloma - Park of the Doves
Parque La Paloma, or Park of the Doves is one of the main attractions in Benalmadena. The park is strategically located fifteen minutes from the town center and ten minutes from the Costal de Sol. It is a big park – over 200 square meters.
Besides the flowers and trees, it is also home to a host of animals – pigeons, doves, parrots, birds, hens, roosters, and goats. There used to be many more other birds and animals – peacocks, donkeys, rabbits… During the pandemic, the park was closed for a year, and when they reopened, these animals were no longer there.
What is in the park? What has the park to offer?
There are 2 man-made ponds – one bigger and one smaller. The bigger pond is apparently only three feet deep. The smaller one is not very deep either. These are home to ducks, swans, fishes, turtles...
Cactus Garden. There is a Cactus garden with over, supposedly, 400 species of cactus.
There is a fountain. In summer, when there are performances, they will turn on the fountain.
There is a gift cum refreshment shop that sells souvenirs and ice-creams, drinks and light snacks.
There is a cafeteria that sells drinks and light meals. It looks like a very nice and relaxing place for a drink and a snack.
For people who exercise in the park, there are quite a few exercise stations like these.
There are two very big playgrounds for children too.
There are many patches of green in the park. These are ideal for picnics. You see families having picnics on a lazy weekend afternoon.
And here are some of the residents of the place. A goat pen with about a dozen goats.
A hen pen.
Chickens made up a majority of the residents in the park. In this park, you will hear roosters crowing.
A green parrot.
Pigeons and doves in the trees
Besides that there are beautiful and unique flowers and trees.
I will cover that in another post.
The Parque La Paloma is a unique and amazing place. It is a park with a difference. There are plenty to be of interest. It was voted one of the 25 most beautiful parks in Europe.
