Tour to Candi Jago, a temple that was founded in the 13th century

Hi everyone!, I'm back again, today I will share with you my trip to Candi Jago, which is located in the Jago area, Runggowoni, Central Java, Indonesia. Candi Jago is a temple belonging to Tatrayana Buddhists which was founded during the Singhasari kingdom in the 13th century, this temple was established as a form of respect to the third king of Singhasari, Jago is a name taken from the word "Jajaghu" which means majesty, therefore Jago temple is often referred to as a great place or full of majesty. This temple is unique from other temples in Indonesia, namely the upper part of this temple has been broken, according to local residents' stories, the top of this temple was broken due to a lightning strike. The entrance fee is free and you only need to pay parking fees.

To get to Jago temple, I have to take a train from Malang city with a distance of approximately 22 Kilometers, the path to get to Jago temple is not difficult, because Jago temple has a direction that is in the same direction as other tours in the Malang city area. . I went with 3 of my friends, we departed from the Malang city inn to Jago temple at 08:00, deliberately we left early for fear of crowded people.

How is the structure of Jago Temple?

The structure of this temple can be said to be similar to the structure of PUNDEK BERENDAK, PUNDEK BERENDAK is a building arrangement in Java in the form of a terrace or trap that is arranged like stairs, if you often visit the Java area PUNDEK BERENDAK is the term for the arrangement of the house first, or the temple used Javanese first. As for the structure of the Jago Temple, basically nothing is intact anymore, it has been divided into several parts, and what remains of Jago Temple is the lower part of the temple and another small part, part of the temple is flanked by three terraces. On the outer wall of the foot of the temple are carved carvings of the stories of Khresnayana, Parthayana, Arjunawiwaha, Kunjarakharna, Anglingdharma, and the story of the turtle. I followed the sequence of stories from the parts of the sculpture by walking around the temple passing clockwise. On the left corner of Candi Jago is engraved with animal stories such as the Tantri story, and this story is carved from several parts.

While on the front wall of the temple there is a symbol, namely a turtle. There are carvings of two turtles being carried by white swans using wooden pots, so that the turtles can fly, and on the turtle's journey with a goose, they are laughed at by the wolves below, because they can't stand being laughed at in the end the tortoise it wanted to reply to their laughter and finally opened its mouth and fell, so that this turtle became the wolves' meal. The meaning is more or less giving advice, don't back down in business or work just because of people's insults.

In Candi Jago there are also sculptures of Pancatantra and kunjarakarana. Pancatantra is a sculpture that tells of a brahmin who tries to teach the meaning of life and the wisdom of this world to a prince who cannot hear. Meanwhile, Kunjakarana is a sculpture that tells of a giant who embraced Buddhism and was very obedient to the teachings of Buddha, and this giant wanted something that if one day he died he would want to be reborn as a human who has a good face and physique. Almost all the temple buildings use andesite raw materials.
