Postcards from Thailand #5: My Acti-VIP Report Card: 25 Feb 2023
It was a toss up between getting back to Bangkok on the bike or bus but when we found some VIP bus tickets left, the choice was made.
Usually when you see VIP in Thailand, it's a dodgy looking karaoke place or backstreet massage. The sort of place that doesn't get mentioned in Hive travel blogs or pinned onto @pinmapple, but as far as buses are concerned, it means it's a comfy 27 seater with just 9 rows of 3, plush seats with acres of legroom. You get there refreshed and still able to feel your arse. That's what I call a happy ending ;-)
Anyway, to be honest, the bus does look a little like a back street knocking shop....err I imagine....with its velvety red seats and fancy pink curtains, arranged into a flower but I really don't care because anything is better than the usual 56 seater with it's rock hard seats and endless fight with the person in front over reclining their seat!
So apart from the big comfy seats with recline and foot rests , the only other benefit of paying an extra 300 baht is that every seat gets its own mains power point which consists of a standard house style double-socket that's being stuck to the seat back in front! I guess it's just to plug chargers or whatever into, but I'm tempted to bring a mini kettle next week! The blanket is no thicker than the other bus and the free packet of Jammy Dodgers and a box of juice is the same.
Anyway, that's it. I managed a decent step count in the garden today.
It's currently 1am and in 6 hours time, I'll be home and trying to sneak in a quick couple.of hours before the kids start arriving at 9.
I'm.back South on Sunday night by the same bus but the wife's flying Monday morning. As the following weekend is a holiday weekend, we're going stay down on Samui and take a break!
I hope everyone has a wonderful weekend and I wish you all, health and happiness :-)

Yay to VIP bus service… what a difference.
I even take the red velvet and pink curtains… it doesn’t matter… everything is better than the other bus hahaha 🤣
Good for you @nathen007
Happy weekend 👋🏻☀️
This is very comfortable if you ask me. I don't know why bikes would be considered an option unless it's pricy or difficult to get these VIP tickets.. I guess?
Sorry, I meant motorbike. It's a 750km each way return trip I make each week . Sometimes I do it in the car or on the motorbike, sometimes fly, sometimes bus!
Hope life is looking up for you mate and have a wonderful weekend :-)
