The rear of the wing mirror is as reflective as the front!

You can blame @patsitivity for this. She has this competition nailed with her beautiful and romantic wedding shots but I did ask her about shooting in black and white and she mentioned there is a setting for that and so I delved into my phone settings with my fat fingers and lo and behold, under the 'pro' setting, I changed the phone to take black and whites.

I love the mood and atmosphere of monochrome photography and often find myself wishing I could create some of the amazing shots that the folks of the photography communities produce. You're never too old to learn so I thought I'd enter this week, hiding away at the bottom of the list of comments on the @derangedvisions contest post. I've tried to change colour photos into monochrome before using Apps but have never been happy with the results. This time, we were going 'native'.

But what to shoot? Well, I went for the car and decided to get some shots while it was still shiny and new. As it's black, I wasn't sure how they would come out or how the phone would cope.

The answer is mixed. The photos really showed up the dust but more than that I got some fabulous reflections. Some were not so sharp and I don't have the knowledge to correct that. I did set the shutter and aperture to automatic however, so perhaps I ought to have tried different settings. One thing I did like was the depth of the blacks and the tones of grey.

I went for (what I thought were) angles and composition to try and make the photos more interesting. Anyway, waffle over. As usual, any comments and advice from the photography is always welcome.

Photos taken with my old Xiaomi Note 9.

PS @littlebee4 have you seen this competition, I did see your cute animals today in the monomad challenge and you do have a nice camera :-)

This was too arty for me to possibly comment on. 🤣

Only kidding, very good black and whites! There's a lot under that pro setting!!

I think I've opened Pandora's box....or more likely, perhaps not! I'm a simple soul searching for a simple life.

I like the simple life too but some stuff just has to be nosed around in and the pro settings on the phone are always worth a shufti!

Hi @nathen007 👋🏻😁
Nope I have not seen this competition. Will look into it. Thank you for letting me know.
To bad I didn’t post my monochromes from today through liketu hahaha 🤣

Such a great way to get some black and white shots with the phone setting. The balance is good in most cases.
You did a great job by photographing your car… making it into a full study. 😎 beautiful.
Good luck in the contest 🤞🏻🤞🏻😁👋🏻😎

@nathen007! Haha so this was my doing? 😅 These turned out fine. Glad I was able to influence you to join the contest as well. It's fun shooting in Black and White settings. Did you try Lightroom this time around?

Lightroom? Behave! Finding the B+W setting has been my 'new skill of the day'! The pictures are as they came straight from the phone!
