Havana, my song in photos for you
A photographer's job of organizing his or her archive is probably the most tedious there is. It takes a lot of time and I think most of it is diluted in choosing which photos to keep and which to discard. Because, my friends, it is a reality that not everything can be kept even if you want to. Sometimes we can deal with a terrible lack of space.
These days I have started to look at some folders where I keep works that need -let's say- a cleaning. It is not easy. It is terrible, I can say.
I thought that as time went by this task would be less cumbersome, but no. It makes me sad to press that delete key, a sadness that also brings pain.
I was on this issue a few hours ago and I came across some work I did in 2018. It turns out that a friend who had a Fototours business contacted me because she had a lot of work piled up and almost couldn't keep up with all the commitments.
I found these photos of a girl that I remember was one of the most fun jobs I did helping my friend.
If it takes art to photograph, I think it takes a lot more art to pose. Or I don't know, you tell me. To each his own, right?
But my thoughts don't stop there. Looking through the photos and selecting a few for this post, I thought that the first comment I made earlier today on Hive was about Havana. A traveller was questioning rather sad things that, yes, are certainly experienced in my city, but I also told him that these kinds of things are not exclusive to Havana, because, in every city in the world, there are unscrupulous people willing to take advantage of the ignorance or innocence of foreign visitors.
I recommend that before travelling to any place you should be well informed and there are even ways to find people who can guide you so that your experience will not be as disastrous as it was. I felt so sad for him and also for how he was presenting my city, which (I'm not saying that I'm not) is hurting, and needs a lot of love, to be taken care of and not let it drown in neglect.
These are difficult times... well honestly since I have a conscience I don't remember prosperity. However, I feel a great love for my city and for this country. We know that things are not going well, but it hurts us very much that they come to speak ill of our home. I always try to do good and contribute so that things improve, although I am aware that this is the responsibility of all Cubans.
Let's go back to the photos... Havana is magical and I am sure this girl was happy here. I would like to hear from you -if you have the time and inclination- what this work conveys to you.
These are just a few photos from that photo session. Maybe one of these days I'll get the feeling and show you a few more.

It's what I see; whether it's the reality is another thing I guess.
That vision is the one I share.
Havana hurts, maybe today more... but Havana is also its people and everything you mention, they have it. We have it.
It's such a shame things went the way they did, I wonder what the country might be like if Castro had not been a dick.

Ah you saw my recent photography post about Port Elliot. if you come here you'll have to bring your camera...bring a big-ass lens and you'll get some good whale photos.

De momento, entiendo tu sentir. Si a los que no somos fotógrafo nos da nostalgia volver sobre momentos pasados plasmados en imágenes, puedo imaginar el dolor, desde el arte, de hacer una "limpieza" de esos pedacitos de memorias 😥
De la Habana no quiero hablar, duele en estos días un poco más de lo que ya estamos habituados 🖤... pero sí, comparto tu sentir
No estamos apurados. El tiempo está detenido y mañana será como si fuera hoy. 😂
Están geniales estas fotos 😃, creo que expresan la alegría que siente el que visita La Habana, al menos eso me transmiten a mí porque yo cuando estuve allí (dos veces he ido) andaba así, emocionada y feliz en cada esquina que conocía 🎉.
Y del resto, es como dices, en todos los países hay problemas y en cualquier lugar del mundo te pueden estafar. Leí el post que mencionas y bue... ok, cada quien tiene su visión (y sus prejuicios), como la mía siempre es hacia el optimismo, no percibí tu ciudad así jejeje, ¡simplemente la amé!

This girl (well criolla, mulatisima) is denoted that she enjoyed very much this moment, where she was for a while the center of your photographic lens. So spectacular poses that dazzles with her cubania, a well nuanced identity, that everyone who lives and feels for this country feels identified. It is obviously not the best, but it is our home. A house that needs a lot of repairs, because it is falling apart, but it is still our home. Congratulations friend, another excellent photographic work.
Está chica (bien criolla, mulatisima) se denota que disfrutó mucho este momento, donde fue por un tiempo el centro de tu lente fotográfico. Tan espectaculares poses que deslumbra con su cubania, una identidad bien matizada, que todo el que vive y siente por este país se siente identificado. Que no es el mejor obviamente, pero es nuestra casa. Una casa que hay que hacerle muchas reparaciones,porque se cae a pedazos, pero no deja de ser nuestro hogar. Felicidades amiga, otro excelente trabajo fotográfico.

The current situation is really bad, but it's not all the picture so, we can also find good things within the chaos, like the ones you show in these picrures, a really nice look of Havana and what our country represents for us.
I discovered a little more about how bad the situation is there...I thought I knew but I didn't. It's so sad.
It is indeed, it's harder for some people than for others, that's why leaving the country represents the best option for so many people, and I don't judge them at all, 'cause I understand them ❤️🩹
I spoke about this with someone who lives there recently and it made me feel sad, but also made me respect you folks so much, your resilience, persistence and the way you keep smiling through it all.
Thank you so much for your nice words 🙏❤️, it means a lot. We Cubans love our country so much, that's why it's so painful to see what it has become, but as you say, we try to keep a happy face above all.
People here could learn from you folks, most wouldn't last ten minutes in your country. It's a credit to you, how you cope and manage and still keep upbeat about it. I hope to visit someday, I'd love to, and hopefully would get to meet some you Hivers there.

Posing for a photograph IS AN ART. In my experience, it takes a lot of angel and charisma to pose something I don't have, that's why I don't take pictures myself hahaha 😂😅 that girl definitely has it. She is gorgeous and looks so natural with that beautiful huge smile 😍

Las fotos turísticas son "engañosas" 🤭. Su finalidad publicitaria es el objetivo y siempre tratan de mostrar lo lindo de cada lugar. Tu sesión muestra belleza, esa que hay por toda la Habana, la real, la de su gente, de sus fachadas deterioradas por el tiempo, de sus calles no tan limpias. Un poco de nostalgia traen, porque los que la habitamos sabemos que cada día está más abandonada y duele, duele mucho. Pero la Habana es mágica, nuestro país es bello, dejando a un lado todo tipo de cuestionamientos. No he leído el post que refieres, pero cada cual habla desde su vivencia, no creo que se deba generalizar. En todos lados hay gente sin escrúpulos. Otros problemas, que incluso, no padecemos aún en nuestro país. Mientras tanto sigamos disfrutando de esta ciudad maravillosa y tratemos de hacer lo mejor por ella, por todos. Hay algo que siempre he pensado y es acerca de la pertinencia de ser nosotros mismos voceros de nuestra realidad, pues las personas suelen dar muchas cosas por sentado y la vida siempre está llena de matices. Todos nosotros tenemos una valiosa opinión. Yo no descarto ninguna. Pero las mejores son aquellas que se hacen sobre la base del conocimiento y la vivencia. Te agradezco siempre tu visita y tus comentarios. Un abrazo, sol, mucho sol. Y mucho corazón también.
Todo nace, tiene sus días de gloria y después fenece para volver a revivir y comenzar la rueda del Samsara una y otra vez. La Habana, cuando renazca, la veo como a una novia que irá a su casamiento muy enamorada. Y que bailará a ritmo de conga en carnavales interminables.
Una ciudad a dónde volverán las aves migratorias con historias y experiencias de sus vuelos, con formas nuevas de construir sus nidos.

Todos podemos hacer un poquito por ella. Desde un post mostrando su belleza descascarada hasta evitar tirar basura en sus calles. O quizás hacer una gran campaña para limpiarla. Otros le dedican poemas y palabras con mucho sentimiento a esa novia sin par.

Las fotos me encanan. Con tantos colores se ve menos tristeza de la que hay realmente. Es un gran trabajo, muestras la realidad pero con optimismo.
Gracias Daya. Es verdad que posar es un poco trabajoso, pero hay gente que se le da de maravillas y puede convertir ese momento en un disfrute, un juego. En cambio para algunos, quizás es como una pesadilla. 😁

La Habana es un encanto, pero yo no sé hacer ese tipo de trabajos edulcorados. No es que me haya planteado hacerlo de este modo, es que simplemente es lo que sé hacer.
