Every so often a production appears that exceeds expectations and becomes a complete success; I think that is the way to describe "Blue Eye Samurai", a Netflix animated series, released in the last months of last year that captured all the attention of the general public and specialized critics and made other original series of that platform released in those months, go unnoticed. This series has captured my full attention because I can not consider it as an anime in its entirety and if as a production with a lot of influence and is that as has happened in other animated series of Netflix, the animation style is unconventional, but I have always believed that it tries to respect what has been done before.

In "Blue Eye Samurai" we will see the path of revenge that "Mizu" decided to take, who is someone considered as a demon for being someone mixed, that definition and rejection is because of the notorious blue eyes; that creates a lonely character, full of resentment and with a clear mission which is to take revenge on who made her that way; That path of hatred leads her to look for four white men, which in the Edo Period were forbidden to travel in Japan by order of the Tokugawa Shogunate, that makes Mizu's hunt easy and difficult at the same time because one of her targets will not be an easy enemy to defeat.

Me tomé el tiempo para ver y hacer reseña de esta serie porque no me gusta seguir ese paso que toman muchos de dar una opinión inmediata y más cuando es una serie en donde creo que es lo mejor ver cada episodio y así crear una opinión completa y desarrollada. En "Blue Eye Samurai" veremos el camino de la venganza que decidió tomar "Mizu", quien es alguien considerado como un demonio por ser alguien mixto, esa definición y rechazo es por lo notorio de sus ojos azules; eso crea a un personaje solitario, lleno de resentimiento y con una clara misión la cual es tomar venganza de quién la hizo de esa manera; ese camino de odio la lleva a buscar a cuatro hombres blancos, los cuales en el Periodo Edo estaba prohibido su transitar en Japón por mandato del Shogunato Tokugawa, eso hace que la cacería de Mizu sea fácil y difícil a la vez porque uno de sus objetivos no será un enemigo fácil de vencer.

As I said from the beginning, this production is possibly the farthest thing from what is considered an anime because of the animation style, something that in previous opportunities has happened with other Netflix productions, although many of those series do show a great influence in the anime, but I think that "Blue Eye Samurai", even though its story takes place in Japan, I think it takes some or little influence in the anime style and unify it with a European style; The above described can be considered as a criticism or complaint on my part, but the reality is that I was completely fascinated with the style and when watching other Netflix series, you get the feeling that if you use a style of animation more linked to the anime would be better, but with this new series, there is no doubt that what has been done both in the design of the characters, in the recreation of the places and in the beauty of the battles, is the best I've seen in an original animated production of Netflix.

Cómo dije desde un principio, esta producción posiblemente sea lo más alejado a lo considerado como un anime por el estilo de animación, algo que en anteriores oportunidades ha sucedido con otras producciones de Netflix, aunque muchas de esas series, si demuestran una gran influencia en el anime, pero creo que "Blue Eye Samurai", a pesar de que su historia se desarrolla en Japón, creo que toma cierta o poca influencia en el estilo del anime y la unifique con un estilo europeo; lo antes descrito puede considerarse como una crítica o queja de mi parte, pero la realidad es que quede completamente fascinado con el estilo y es que al ver otras series de Netflix, se tiene la sensación de que si se usa un estilo de animación más ligado al anime sería mejor, pero con esta nueva serie, no hay duda que lo hecho tanto en el diseño de los personajes, en la recreación de los lugares y en lo hermoso de las batallas, es de lo mejor que he visto en una producción animada original de Netflix.

La historia así como la animación es fascinante; el relato de todo la vida de "Mizu" la cual solo ha vivido pocos momentos felices y satisfactorios es lo mejor de la serie; esa decisión de usar los flashbacks para dar profundidad a lo que es la vida actual del personaje principal es algo muy bien escrito porque nos da una perspectiva de su venganza la cual en momentos puede considerarse como algo repetitivo, pero la vida de ese personaje es cambiante, es una lucha constante, son un acumulado de vivencias que nos lleva al lugar de su historia la cual somos testigos y justamente desde su punto de vista, no solo vemos el relato de su venganza, sino también su influencia en otros personajes que así como Mizu deciden transitar un camino del Samurái, un camino en donde harán todo lo posible para retomar su honor.

I understand why many have ranked it as one of the best Netflix productions in the past year and why it has obtained a second season soon to be released and despite not considering it as a full anime, I think the elements of the story, its protagonist, the villains, the battles, puts it in that line.

Entiendo el porqué muchos la han catalogado como una de las mejores producciones de Netflix en el pasado año y del porqué ha obtenido una segunda temporada próxima a estrenarse y a pesar de no considerarla como un anime por completo, creo que los elementos de la historia, su protagonista, los villanos, las batallas, la sitúa en ese renglón.
