Hola amigos de la comunidad de Book Club📚, espero que se encuentren muy bien el día de hoy. Cómo ya he hecho costumbre la forma de dejar un tiempo para poder escuchar audiolibros me propuse a buscar otro que llamara mi atención por lo que descubrí uno de la misma escritora mexicana Amparo Dávila llamado "El Espejo". Ya había leído de ella anteriormente "El Abrazo" y me gustó mucho la forma en la que escribió y relata las historias llenas de verdad y también de misterio con un poco de incertidumbre. Así que el día de hoy les voy a hablar sobre "El Espejo" de Amparo Dávila.

As I have already made a habit of leaving some time to listen to audiobooks I decided to look for another one that caught my attention so I discovered one of the same Mexican writer Amparo Dávila called "El Espejo" (The Mirror). I had already read "El Abrazo" by her before and I really liked the way she wrote and tells stories full of truth and also of mystery with a little bit of uncertainty. So today I am going to tell you about "El Espejo" by Amparo Dávila.

En esta obra nos cuenta Dávila la historia de un joven llamado David quien tiene un buen trabajo pero que vive bastante ocupado por lo que no siempre tiene el tiempo para poder visitar a su madre, ya que ella es la única progenitora que tiene en vida porque su padre murió hace diez años. Mientras David lleva una vida muy ocupada entre tantas responsabilidades, su madre tiene un accidente dónde se ve comprometida una de sus piernas por lo que tiene que llevarla de urgencia al médico y allí le colocan un yeso para comenzar el proceso de su recuperación pero hay algo más que no está bien con su madre, se encuentra desganada y tiene un aspecto bastante decaído que lo hace sentir angustiado por saber que es lo que le está ocurriendo.

In this book Dávila tells us the story of a young man named David who has a good job but lives a busy life so he does not always have time to visit his mother, since she is the only parent he has in life because his father died ten years ago. While David leads a busy life with so many responsibilities, his mother has an accident where one of her legs is compromised so he has to take her urgently to the doctor and there they put a cast to begin the process of recovery but there is something else that is not right with his mother, she is listless and looks quite down that makes him feel anxious to know what is happening to her.

La madre de Diego empieza a decaer y también a tener una obsesión con "El Espejo" pero Diego no comprende que es lo que le sucede por lo que piensa que tal vez en el sanatorio donde la tiene no están tratandola de la mejor manera y por eso ella se siente incomoda así que decide cambiarla de lugar para que pueda sentirse tranquila mientras se recupera. Pero empieza la madre de Diego a tener crisis de ansiedad sobre todo por las noches dónde siempre a la misma hora la enfermera que se encarga de llevarle la medicina llega y su madre se pone muy mal. Diego piensa que podría ser por el tema de que es una persona mayor y que también se siente sola por la falta de la compañía de él así que toma la decisión de quedarse a dormir en una cama a su lado para ver qué es lo que le causa tanto miedo y angustia a su madre.

Diego's mother begins to decline and also to have an obsession with "The Mirror" but Diego does not understand what is happening to her so he thinks that maybe in the sanatorium where she is not being treated in the best way and that's why she feels uncomfortable so he decides to change her place so she can feel calm while she recovers. But Diego's mother begins to have anxiety crises especially at night where always at the same time the nurse who is in charge of taking her medicine arrives and his mother gets very bad. Diego thinks it could be due to the fact that she is an elderly person and that she also feels lonely due to the lack of his company, so he decides to sleep in a bed next to her to see what is causing his mother so much fear and anguish.

En las noches siempre vienen las crisis y la misma conversación: es el espejo dice ella. Diego no entiende que pasa con el espejo así que espera a que sea de noche para ver hacia el espejo al momento de que su madre vaya a tener de nuevo una crisis y cuando lo hace se da cuenta de que en el espejo a esa hora no se ve el reflejo de la enfermera que va a darle la medicina a su madre, esto lo llena de mucha angustia y ansiedad y empieza a entender que tal vez su madre tiene razón y esta pasando algo extraño con el dicho espejo. Así pasan varios días en los que ambos conversan y se dan cuenta de que a través del espejo pueden notar que hay un "aura" o una "presencia" de algo maligno, algo que está lejos de ser bueno.

Diego does not understand what is happening with the mirror so he waits until it is night to look into the mirror when his mother is going to have another crisis and when he does he realizes that in the mirror at that time the reflection of the nurse who is going to give the medicine to his mother is not visible, this fills him with anguish and anxiety and he begins to understand that maybe his mother is right and something strange is happening with the mirror. Several days go by in which they both talk and realize that through the mirror they can notice that there is an "aura" or a "presence" of something evil, something that is far from being good.

Cómo siempre la escritura de Amparo Dávila es magistral y te lleva a adentrarte en la historia de tal manera que sientes las mismas emociones de los personajes. En este caso David quien quiere ver a su madre recuperada y que le parece extraño que haya cambiado tanto empieza a descubrir que hay algo más profundo que atormenta a su madre y que se refleja a través de los espejos, que no tiene nada que ver con el sanatorio o el trato de los médicos y las enfermeras. Realmente sientes un miedo increíble al leer esta historia dónde aunque soy un poco escéptica puedo pensar que algunas veces cuando las personas dicen que no les gusta tener espejos en sus habitaciones o en algún lugar de su casa porque es de mala suerte pudiera ser o una creencia de esas antiguas o también un miedo interno que se llega a reflejar en el temor a mirarse a través del espejo.

As always Amparo Davila's writing is masterful and takes you into the story in such a way that you feel the same emotions of the characters. In this case David who wants to see his mother recovered and who finds it strange that she has changed so much begins to discover that there is something deeper that torments his mother and that is reflected through the mirrors, that has nothing to do with the sanatorium or the treatment of the doctors and nurses. You really feel an incredible fear when reading this story where although I am a little skeptical I can think that sometimes when people say that they don't like to have mirrors in their rooms or somewhere in their house because it is bad luck it could be either one of those old beliefs or also an inner fear that is reflected in the fear of looking through the mirror.

Al final de la historia me quedó de aprendizaje que la mente del ser humano puede ser tanto grandiosa como enigmáticamente perturbadora, cada una de las personas puede estar en un punto de su vida en el que lleguen a pensar que tienen una salud perfecta pero no sabemos que tipo de suceso vivido nos puede afectar hasta el punto de llegar a somatizar esto en el cuerpo y llegar a enfermar la mente, la mente es muy frágil en algunas ocasiones y nos puede hacer dudar de nuestras propias creencias y de lo que parece ser real y lo que no. Sin duda es una lectura que vale la pena leer hasta el final y que nos hace preguntarnos tantas cosas, sobre todo el por qué de que algunas personas sean más predispuestas a enfermar de la mente y que esto les genere fuertes episodios de crisis de ansiedad.

At the end of the story I learned that the human mind can be both great and enigmatically disturbing, each of the people may be at a point in their lives where they come to think they have perfect health but we do not know what kind of event can affect us to the point of somatize this in the body and get sick mind, the mind is very fragile at times and can make us doubt our own beliefs and what seems to be real and what is not. Undoubtedly it is a reading that is worth reading until the end and that makes us wonder so many things, especially why some people are more predisposed to get sick of the mind and that this generates strong episodes of anxiety crises.
