This is my post for #freewriters Sunday prompt potato chips hosted by @mariannewest

Last Thursday after my husband's doctor appointment, we went to the cheap food store. I called my granddaughter to meet us there. This was so she could bring the dog food for her dog that we keep, so she did not have to drive to our house. We were in the town that she lives in.

When I told her that we would keep her dog, I also told her that I would buy her food, but I could not buy the expensive food that she buys. She told me that she would buy the food because it is better for her. I just can not afford to pay 30 dollars a week for dog food. She has never missed a week of buying it. we have had her dog for a year and a half or close to it.

Anyway, she met us there with the food and I told her to come inside with us. In this store, you buy many things by the case, or bag full. Like potato chips, are to fill a plastic grocery bag for 99 cents. A box of prepared Ceasar salad was 99 cents, there were 8 packages in the box. 8 tubs of cream cheese was 1.99. A case of broccoli and cauliflower in 2-pound bags, 10 bags of it was 1.99. A case of 8 quart size jugs of orange juice was 99 cents.

I forget what all we bought but we only spent 20 dollars. When we got to the truck, we opened the cases and sent our granddaughter home with some of each thing that we bought.

The only thing about this store is you have to watch what you buy. Some items are well past their expiration dates and some fresh veggies and fruits are not very fresh but if you do not mind looking for the fresher items, you can find edible things.

The only complaint that I have is the meats are no cheaper than Wal-Mart or Publix, this upsets me because these items still have the price tags with store names on the product and they sell them for this same price. All things in this store are donated from the big stores and they have signs everywhere stating that the prices are a handling fee. Who do they think they are kidding?

We have some stores like that around here, where you do have to check the expiration dates but can get some really good deals. It's odd they don't mark down the meat.

Maybe it is because where I live and we have a lot of people who shop there that do not need to. They have the money to pay whatever prices they put on things. If they can save a dollar on something else, they will pay full price for the meats. They used to be in a run-down building and money people did not go there, now they moved into a huge nice building and a lot of the cars in the parking lot are not the same kind of cars that shopped at the old building.

How I wish we had shops like that. I only remember them out of my childhood. The white market it was called.
There was a gas station with the same name too.
