Silo - A different and interesting proposal

Science fiction and post-apocalyptic worlds go perfectly hand in hand, we have seen dozens of series, movies and anime that present us with scenarios of this type and somehow that has made us progressively lose the surprise factor. There are many interesting ideas that we have been getting to know, but I am afraid that little by little some of them have become repetitive or cyclical to the point that we can point out that many of the stories are similar or have the same inspiration. Thus, those of us who are interested in this genre try to find innovative ideas that offer us a distinctive alternative to the rest, and besides that, one that can be sustained over time.

I recently discovered “Silo”, a science fiction series of the year 2023 directed by Morten Tyldum and Adam Bernstein, mainly, but there are other directors involved in specific chapters. This series can be seen on Apple TV+ and stars the well-known Rebecca Ferguson, an actress we know from Mission Impossible, Dune, The White Queen, among other good productions. We also see Rashida Jones, Iain Glen, Common, among other very varied actors who give life to this complex story of which I will tell you in the following lines.

A silo is a cylindrical construction designed to contain grains, among other elements derived from agriculture, I make this clarification because precisely the name of the series tells us in what scenario the story takes place, but in this case it is a gigantic subway silo in which there are dozens of floors and thousands of people live. This silo is self-sustaining, organized and there are even offices or institutions that govern the destinies of the population, just as a government does. Everyone seems to live in peace, they do not lack food or any kind of resources, so they just live from day to day.

It is assumed that the outside of the silo is uninhabitable, nobody knows why or since when it is so, but few people ask, or rather, those who dare to ask. I say this because in the silo there are rules that somehow try to prevent people from inquiring about the past and about anything else that “threatens” the stability and survival of the population. But, as we all know, there is always a curious sector that tries to investigate from the shadows things that from their point of view are not correct or that generate suspicion.

This is how in the series we see how a group of people confronts the silo authorities, this happens because little by little events are developing that generate suspicions that all is not well in the silo and that make us think that the population is being controlled with arguments that are not entirely sincere. In this series we see how a rebellion is brewing, fueled by unjust acts and actions that cast doubt on the good intentions of the authorities and generate a desire to know what is behind it all.

Silo — Official Trailer

Silo is a series that offers a different alternative as far as post-apocalyptic worlds are concerned, there is good drama and a good administration of secrets, mysteries and other elements that make the viewer feel curious and intrigued. However, of the 10 chapters that I have seen, which correspond to the first season, there were several that lacked rhythm, I could even say that they are boring, but at least they did not stop the development of the story and that is a very important point in favor in the series that have several chapters because although it is true that you can not keep the good pace throughout the season at least it is important that the story does not stop.

If you like science fiction and post-apocalyptic worlds then this series is for you. I think the approach is distinctive beyond the fact that there are clichés that are unavoidable, but not serious. I still see a lot of potential in what is to come which is the second season which is currently ongoing, I can't wait to start watching it as the season finale was super interesting. My rating for the first season of Silo is 7.5/10, we'll see what the second season's rating will be. hugs!

The atmosphere in which it was developed reminded me of the movie The Hole.

Greetings friend, I did not know about this production and it really caught my attention that we were locked in that space and from there began to recreate everything, where the survival of the human being comes into play and I think that no one would like to be locked up there. . and fall into more lies. I'll look it up and see that it has good actors. I recommend that you watch Fallout, it's also science fiction.

Interesting analysis of Silo! I agree that it's a pretty fresh take on the post-apocalyptic genre, although as you mention, some episodes of the first season felt a bit slow. The atmosphere of the silo and the intrigue it generates about what happens outside it is what keeps me hooked. I hope to find time to see how the story develops in season two, as the end of season one left me with a lot of questions. regards!
