Ach wie süß! / Oh how sweet! 😎

Fast ein halbes Jahr waren sie in der Erde, wurden gehegt und gepflegt und zumindest das Blattwerk sah vielversprechend aus.
Daher rechnete ich dieses Jahr auch mit einer ansehnlichen Süßkartoffel Ernte.
Vor zwei Tagen war es dann soweit, die Kartoffeln sollten aus der Erde.
Es war ein kurzer Ernte Einsatz, denn schnell wurde mir klar das meine Rechnung nicht aufging.
Keine Ahnung was passiert war, aber die süßen Kartoffeln weigerten sich dieses Jahr auf meinem Acker zu wachsen, gerade mal einen Eimer voll grub ich aus. Der Rest, nur Wurzeln.
Das sind die Momente im Leben eines Bauern, in denen er darüber nachdenkt einen Kanister Benzin über die Beete zu kippen, den ganzen Garten niederzubrennen und sich einen ordentlichen Job zu suchen.
Ist natürlich Quatsch, was soll ich denn mit einer geregelten Arbeit. Der pfiffige Landwirt hat immer einen Plan B parat, für den Fall das etwas schief geht und in meinem Fall hat er sogar einen Namen.

These are the moments in a farmer's life when he thinks about dumping a can of gasoline over the beds, burning down the whole garden, and getting a proper job.
It's nonsense, of course, what would I do with a regular job. The smart farmer always has a plan B ready, in case something goes wrong and in my case, he even has a name.

Domingos heißt der gute Mann, ein alter Freund der sein Geld schon seit vielen Jahren mit dem Anbau der Süßkartoffel verdient.
Seine Anbaufläche ist sicher einhundert mal so groß wie meine und in dieser Zeit des Jahres hat er ordentlich damit zu tun die Ernte einzufahren, die Kartoffeln nach Größe und Aussehen zu sortieren und sie dementsprechend zu verkaufen.
Viele lässt er einfach auf dem Feld liegen, da sie optisch nicht so ansprechend sind und er nur Spitzenqualität vertreiben möchte.
Das wiederum kommt mir gelegen, denn mir ist es egal wie die Knolle aussieht, Hauptsache sie schmeckt.
Früher holte ich mir immer Säckeweise die Kartoffeln, die er ihrem Schicksal überließ und verfütterte sie an die Schweine, als auch an die Familie.
Diesmal bot ich mich als Erntehelfer an, wusste ich doch um die Rückenleiden meines Freundes und sicherte mir somit die lückenlose Versorgung mit Süßkartoffeln, über die Wintermonate.

Die süße, gesunde Knolle findet gerade in der Winterzeit sehr oft den Weg auf unseren Essenstisch.
Serviert mit Wild und einer pikanten Sauce, habe ich sie am liebsten und Dank ihres Reichtums an wertvollen Vitaminen, Mineralstoffen und einem extrem hohen Beta-Karotin Anteils, der im Körper zu Vitamin A umgewandelt wird, ist man gerade für die Erkältungszeit gut gerüstet.
