Host Cameroon Opens AFCON 2022 With 2-1 Defeat Against Burkina Faso
The AFCON 2022 started pretty well yesterday in Olembe Stadium in Yaounde Cameroon when the host nation Cameroon hosted Burkina Faso in a group A match. The opening ceremony was attended by Cameroon president Paul Biya and his FIFA's counterparts Gianni Infantino. The tournament which was supposed to be held last year 2021 was shifted due to the covid-19 pandemic which affected the globe. Gustavo Sangare of Burkina Faso scored the first goal of the tournament on the 24th minute when he powered a beautiful valley past goal Cameroonian keeper to give his country a 1-0 lead.
On the 41st minutes referee Mustapha Ghorbal awarded a penalty to Cameroon after VAR check when Andre-Frank Zambo Anguissa was obstructed by Bertrand Traore inside the box.Vincent Aboubakar sent the keeper the wrong way to make it 1-1 for for the host nation.
The first half ended 2-1 when Issoufou Dayo miscalculated his tackle and brought down Nouhou Tolo in the box to give Cameroon their second penalty of the match. Vincent Aboubakar stepped up to slot in his second goal of the evening for his country.
Traore's two freekicks attempts on the 47th and 57th minutes marked the beginning of the second half as Burkina Faso searched for an equaliser. Ngamaleu 59th minutes shot on the keepers rebounds to Aboubakar who slotted in his third goal of the game but was eventually ruled out offside after VAR check.
This victory means Cameron are joined top group A with three points with Cape Verde that defeated Ethiopia 1-0 in the other of the group A match.

Burkina Faso has themselves to blame for the two penalties they gave away... They had the game in control before then... Cameroon got off to a winning start. 3 points in the bag.
