African Union Peace Keeper Base in Somalia Attacked By AI-Shabab
According to the report from the East African country’s contingent and a Somali captain, Al-Shabab fighters launched an attack on the military base housing the Ugandan forces of the African Union in Somalia on the 26th day of May, 2023, through the southwest route of the state's capital Mogadishu, 130 km away. Following the extent of the attack as far as destruction and loss of lives are concerned, Al-Shabab has claimed a total of 137 soldiers.
The record of several attacks with varying degrees on the peacemakers in the African Union has been a recurrent one in that the attacks keep on coming, and most of the time they come in an unexpected way, which keeps those to be attacked unaware, and in addition to this, so many lives and properties have been lost on the way.
The African Union Transition Mission in Somalia (ATMIS), with army troops in thousands of up to 22,000, has it that they were assessing the security parameters and options regarding this attack, though they didn't provide concrete information on Twitter when they wanted to go live. This fight has indeed been an injurious one in that ATMIS has been assisting the Somali government in this war against al-Qaeda, which has been going on since 2022.
The suicide bombing attacks from AI-Shabab, in which they claimed they killed a significant number of 137 soldiers, have had unyielding fruits owing to the fact that the actual number of soldiers that they claimed they killed during the suicide bombing is not of the same tally with what the official is saying in that the authorities are dismissing such a number because they tend to be on top of the situation, but Abdullahi, who is a Somalian capital, gave reuters news the report of the rebels attacking the African Union Transition Mission in Somalia (ATMIS) base and one that is also adjacent to that which wholly belongs to the Somalian military, which on this effect there was an intense firings from both ends which at the end both parties faced big casualties in their numbers.
Rukia Farah who is one of the residents, gave a comprehensive report of the residents waking up with firings from both parties, and in an attempt for more safety, they hid themselves. The battle lasted for hours before it ceased, but because of how intense and fearful the battle was, there was no count of casualties between both parties of ATMIS and the government.
In an attempt to give an affirmative reason to this fight which has started since 2006 and during these times, so many destructions has taken place both in lives and properties, which on the backbone of the causative agent to this fight, it was gathered that it is based on interpretation 0f Islamic law which a group tends to create her own space of autonomy and rule.
