The Elites

Muleto terrorized the island of St. Patrick. He had built a guerilla soldier and took over power from the ruling class, sacking the capital and establishing his sovereignty in the slump of the town bothering the coast of the pacific ocean. He had bore the pain of the sting of the bad government after graduating from high school and was not employed to feed his poor family.

Their first reason for the coup was that the civilian government is very corrupt. Their major concern is to deplete the economy and rather invest in the west and leave the masses vulnerable. The severe outcry of the populace did not make them have a change of heart, they plundered the island the most.

When Muleto took over power, he refused to live in the well-furnished capital house of the government. He wanted to feel what his people felt and return it through a transition process to her former glorious life. This was his passion as he left no stone unturned in his drive to make the island a home for all.

In less than one year in office, he has commissioned over a hundred social projects. Now St. Patrick's island started having tourists and investors who wanted to be a part of the many benefits of the Muleto led regime.

For the first time since her independence, there was a constant power supply. A centralized water supply to all nooks crannies of the island.

The percentage of out-of-school children dropped by about eighty. That is a huge growth in the growth of the educational sector of the island.

Two years in the office, there was peace and tranquillity but the enemy of the state who has not been benefitting from the treasure of the island started looking at models to adopt to get back power and plunder the island again.

The stage is set for new political parties to be registered so that the transition process can be open to all stakeholders who wish to play active roles in the government and the interests of the people.

There were two dominant political parties among the six registered political parties. MYP and COD. Unfortunately, this democracy is just growing and the electorates are not as educated as they ought. MYP is the elite party and members who control more than half of the nation's wealth have always devised a method.

The MYP has devised vote-buying as their strategy for winning this election. Since the COD have the most patriotic citizens who have from time immemorial but do not have the financial capacity to stand headlong with the MYP, they resulted in distributing a well-structured manifesto with voter education as their strategy for winning the elections.

When the polls began, the voters who were bribed collected money but would not cast their votes for the corrupt elites who have always used propaganda in winning elections.

After the polls and vote counting, the COD won the elections crystal clear and the elites were taught a good lesson in the bitter way.

Muleto succeeded in bringing in a government that would make the country proud. The battle is not over yet as the MYP headed to the tribunal, accusing COD to have engaged in threats of loyal voters at the polls so as those loyalists will stay away for the fear of being harmed.

Since the accusation was clueless and with any truth or evidence to claim validity, the tribunal once again declared COD the winner of the elections.

On the day of swearing in the newly elected executives, Muleto gave a short speech of patriotism and national interest rather than individual goals to the people.

The island over time became and envy of nations to the east of the Pacific who dropped the island to see the high rise building a large market for aquatic splendour.

We have a rebel in this story who is equipped with ideals. He never loses sight of them and is able to persuade the electorate that he serves their interests. You describe what could be any government anywhere in a way that helps readers understand political transition.

Thank you for sharing this story with the Ink Well community.

Hi @mrenglish. Have you ever checked out our catalog of fiction writing tips? There's an article in particular I recommend called Action, Dialog and Narrative: The Dynamic Trio.

A true story has a character that speaks and moves and interacts with other characters in the story. We want to hear what the characters have to say, and see them in movement. Stories that are all narrative essentially summarize the story instead of letting the reader experience it.

I encourage you to check out that article, and others in our catalog of fiction writing tips for inspiration!

This kind of thing almost the same happening in the last election in my country, not exactly the same, but a bit similar. The money really can't buy the vote, but it can cause a bit of problem toward the democrazy

Democracy is really a demonstration of craze. People now buy and sell votes which equals sell of conscience. It is so saddening.
