Long Walk To Final Rest
It is quite difficult to believe that he is no more. A man that was Hale and hearty fee hours ago when we made a video call to say hi, and his grandchildren were eager to say that they would be coming over to spend the long vacation with him. Just within minutes, he is gone. What is in this life that man should not let go. Life is a bundle of joke if you asked me.
All that is in life is to obey the simple rules so that we can manage to keep everything in check and to reduce fatality to it's nearest minimum.
When we inquired to know how it all happened, all we got was that a driver was driving at high speed on a wrong lane, hit him down and he bled till he died. What a sad way to end the life of another. The breadwinner of a family was killed because of a lawbreaker. At the end, the killer-driver went to report himself at the police station where he was detained. I was so saddened by this avoidable incidence.
Well, we accepted it as fate. The killer-driver was released on a prerogative of mercy while we made plans to bury the remains of my father-in-law.
On the day of his burial, all groups that father-in-law belonged too came out en mass to accord him thor last respect. It was like a carnival. All the group agreed to walk down to the mortuary where his remains will be transported to the place where he would be laid to rest.
What was more obligatory was to perform the traditional rite of the late gentleman. At first, the wife was to be in seclusion for fifteen days in an apartment where mourners will become to pay her condolence. For the fifteen days, she will not eat any food cooked with oil. She would only feast on fruit and water. But in most cases, the women who lost their husbands only end up not being able to eat.
Once the fifteen days were done, the family and church will then resolve on the actual burial day. By then, all groups md family linkage will come out to pay their last respect.
Yesterday was the day the last respect was paid. The journey started at about 10:00 am. When family, friends and we'll wishes gathered at the funeral. But first, we had to walk to and from to the point of collection of the remains of the deceased.
After the long Walk, we reached the reception ground where the church played her role by singing hymns and taking the word from the Bible and then the body was laid to rest.
Another journey started as we carrier the casket to his home where a quick and short message was taken the dust-to-dust rite was performed. Then his remains was laid to rest. At the time when his body was laid, there was wailing, shouting and crying from the women especially. The wailing continued till after an hour before everybody retired to the reception ground where mourners and other guests were entertained.
Thanks to @tattoodjay for such a great platform #wednesday walk where we can share our Wednesday walking experience. Yesterday was quite a walking experience for me. I did walk.
