I have an interesting anecdote that I would like to share with you about the difference between working in a congested and noisy city and a quiet city located near the sea.

I live in Caracas, the capital of Venezuela, and years ago I had the opportunity to work for a company that had its main office in the city of Caracas and branches in several cities in the interior of the country. One of the offices was in Puerto La Cruz in the state of Anzoátegui.

People from this area of the country are characterized by being very funny, warm and above all very witty. Unlike city dwellers who always have a neurosis to meet their goals, they are quite calm but equally productive.

One day I phoned one of the headquarters located in the interior of the country, to verify a number I needed, when I asked my colleague "how are you doing", he replied "Here, tying the dog".

At that moment I imagined that since my colleague was in the operational zone where the oil wells were located, it would surely be a large area guarded by dogs. That is very common, although it is not within his duties to take care of animals, so I found his answer a little strange.

A lot of time passed and then I was told that in that part of the country "amarrar la perra" or "to tie up the dog" means "to do nothing". It gave me a good laugh to realize that I took the phrase literally.

After some time I was transferred to that city I told you about, Puerto la Cruz in the state of Anzoátegui. As a good city girl I arrived to settle in the office, delighted by the beach climate, and the novelty of the new coworkers.

To my surprise "in the sea life is tastier", and for some reason everything is done in a slower and less stressful way. I loved the experience of working with my colleagues from Puerto La Cruz, they are cheerful and very intelligent people who find a good solution to all problems.

At that time there was a situation of power rationing in the country, so the working hours were until noon. Our peers in the city of Caracas had a full working day, so it was a nuisance for them to have to wait until the next day to ask us any questions.

I could perceive that in the operational areas they really liked their work, it was not routine because there was always something to do, unlike the administrative work in the office that is prone to be more boring.

Tengo una anécdota interesante que quisiera compartir con ustedes sobre como es la diferencia de trabajar en una ciudad congestionada y ruidosa, y una ciudad tranquila ubicada cerca del mar.

Vivo en Caracas la capital de Venezuela, y hace años tuve la oportunidad de trabajar para una empresa que tenía la sede principal en la ciudad de Caracas y sucursales en varias ciudades del interior del país. Una de las oficinas estaban en Puerto La Cruz en el estado Anzoátegui.

Las personas de esa zona del país se caracterizan por ser muy divertidas, cálidas y sobretodo muy ocurrentes. A diferencia de los citadinos que siempre tenemos neurosis por cumplir los objetivos, ellos son bastante tranquilos pero igualmente productivos.

Un día llamé por teléfono a una de las sedes ubicadas en el interior del país, para verificar una cifra que necesitaba, cuando le pregunté a mi par "qué tal cómo estás?", me respondió "Aquí, amarrando la perra".

En ese momento me imaginé que como mi compañero estaba en zona operacional dónde estaban los pozos petroleros, seguramente sería un amplio terreno custodiado por perros. Eso es muy común, aunque no está dentro de sus funciones cuidar animales, por eso me pareció un poco extraña su respuesta.

Mucho tiempo paso y luego me dijeron que en esa parte del país "amarrar la perra" significa "no hacer nada". Me dió mucha risa el darme cuenta que tome la frase literal.

En el mar la vida es más sabrosa

Pasado el tiempo me trasladaron a esa ciudad que les comenté, Puerto la Cruz en el estado Anzoátegui. Cómo buena citadina llegué a instalarme en la oficina, encantada por el clima de playa,y la novedad de los nuevos compañeros de trabajo.

Para mí sorpresa "en el mar la vida es más sabrosa", y por alguna razón todo se hace de una manera pausada y sin tanto estrés. Me encantó la experiencia de trabajar con mis compañeros de Puerto La Cruz, son personas alegres y muy inteligentes que le encuentran una buena solución a todos los problemas.

En esa época había una situación de racionamiento de energía eléctrica en el país, por lo que las jornadas laborales eran hasta el medio día. Nuestros pares en la ciudad de Caracas tenían la jornada completa, por lo que les generaba molestia tener que esperar al día siguiente para hacernos alguna consulta.

Definitivamente las áreas operacionales tienen una dinámica diferente a las áreas administrativas. Pude percibir que en las áreas operacionales les gustaba mucho su trabajo, no era rutinario pues siempre había algo que hacer, a diferencia del trabajo administrativo en la oficina que es propenso a ser más aburrido.
