A new cactus, is it Mammillaria plumosa?
Today I went shopping again to another nursery, I really think I'm getting sick and it's becoming a vice this buying cacti and succulents, but well, I don't think it's such a bad vice unless it bankrupts me haha, and as always, I need your help to identify this little friend @nikv and @ewkaw.
The app tells me this is a feathery mammillaria, and indeed at times it may look like one, but in the photos I've seen I've noticed that you can see some kind of spines as seen in this post, and on my cactus it looks like it was a wet peliche (I think that's the best description I can give), but let's see how it came straight from the nursery.
It didn't look bad, but I wanted to change the pot to leave it there for the next year, and after repotting it, it looked like this.
What do you think, is it the same species or is it an unknown one? By the way, I have long wanted to have a Lobivia silvestrii and had not bought it, today I decided to buy one because it is full of flower buds, its color is a lime green, but after it adapts to the sun it will surely change.
I think this little friend is cereus repandus var. monstrosus, I have it under an oregano plant that gives it some shade so it doesn't get the sun's rays too directly.
This little dude is also new to the collection, I haven't looked up his ID yet, but I think he looks great in his new pot.
I don't really remember if last year I showed you the flowers of my opuntia brasiliensis, it is a small nopalito that if is left under the sun's rays completely changes its shape and becomes a kind of tree, its spines become huge, and that's when it gives us these beautiful flowers that look like plastic.
And well, as I am thinking about making all the photos of my cactus collection look like stock photography, I decided that I must clean all the pots removing dirt and dead leaves, today I took that toothbrush that was unused and with it I started the cleaning of the top of the pots, it did its job quite well.
M plumosa looks more like this, yours seems tufted. Perhaps it is a hybrid
It does look different, I will wait a few days to see if it's easier to identify.
Teaser!!
My first though was Mammillaria plumosa too. And it might be... the thickness of the fur can vary I think. And if it got lots of rain recently it I guess could be all messed up like that.
But I also found a very hairy Mammillaria bocasana cv. multilanata
I guess you will have to wait for the flowers to know exactly which one it is. Both are cool :)
I have Lobivia silvestrii. The flowers on it are really nice! Good buy :)
Awesome bad hair day!
It hasn't rained yet but maybe they put water on it with a hose, maybe I should wait to see the flower as you say, and about the Lobivia silvestrii, I am 100% satisfied with the purchase, now I have to wait for it to open all its flowers.
This is the first time that I have seen this kind of cactus.
Yeah, it was also the first time I saw one, that's why I didn't hesitate to buy it and have it in my collection.
It looks like a sleeping kid of some forest creature ... Beautiful.
Yes it is a very beautiful cactus, but most of all different, I think that makes it unique.
