Legacy: The Compensation Against Death

Many of us often shy away from discussions revolving around our mortality as humans.
For obvious reasons, the concept of Death isn’t something a lot of people are very fond of. But whether we like it or not, it is a fact of life that our demise from this world is inevitable.

Yesterday, I was thinking about birthdays and why people often tend to make big deals out of it. And while I was doing that, my mind started to veer off to other things and I began to ponder on the past, present, future, and most importantly, the end of it all – death.

As I went deeper in my thoughts, I began to feel a sense of fear.
Now, you should know that I have – since a very long time ago – come to terms with the fact that my existence on this plane is temporary. So, what I was feeling wasn’t the fear of death itself, but rather that of its aftermath. And if we’re being honest, that is what most people dread as well. We’re scared of the sequel, of being forgotten.

In a way, we can say that the fear of being forgotten has contributed immensely to the development of our society. It has driven lots of great men to achieve the impossible. Everyone wants to be remembered long after they're gone. Nobody wants to be forgotten when they die.

And it is that fear that motivates most folks to build long-lasting legacies. It is why people wake up 4AM every morning to face Lagos traffic, and why most wealthy men find it hard to retire even when they can afford all the luxuries of life.

The great Nina Simone once said “When I die, I’m going to die knowing that I left something for my people to build on. And that is my reward.” Everybody’s looking for that “something”. Something that people can remember them by. Everybody wants to build a legacy.

Regardless of how we go about building this legacy, one thing I think we should all be conscious of is not to let our legacy be centered around acquiring material things alone. Don’t get me wrong, by all legitimate means, get money, status, and all other desirables, but do not let those be the only things people will remember you for. Do not let them be your only metrics for success.

Be kind to people, appreciate the little things, make good memories, and most importantly, pour out your soul into the universe. Bask in her wisdom, and revel in her glory. And even when humans forget you, she won’t, because you have communed with her and she with you. She is now a part of you the same way you are a part of her. In doing that, you conquer death. You become truly immortal.

This is so beautiful @monioluwa, TED standard infact 😌

It has driven lots of great men to achieve the impossible.

The insane ones as well. No one wants to be forgotten.

This wealthy men thingy. I get that they don't want their life's work to be mishandled or whatever. If I'm the one, imma rest up and enjoy the time I have left 😌😂.

According to Passenger, life's for the living, so live it

Happy birthday bruv 🤗❤

This is beautiful, brother. Glad to see you here and writing. 🙏

And do tell me: what do you want your legacy to be? Have you got a clear vision of want to leave behind?

Hi. 😊 It's been quite a while. Glad to be back again. 😅

To be honest, I really do not have a definite answer to that at the moment. I won't say I have a clear vision yet, but I know I'm very passionate about helping people in whatever way I can and that passion influences most of my decisions.

So, if there's anything I'd love to be remembered for, I think it'll be my willingness to always help in situations.

And of course, it does sound cliché, but that's the best answer I can come up with for now. I do believe that as time goes by and I become older, everything will begin to take shape and I'll start to see things with more clarity.

What about you? What would you like to leave behind?

Oh gosh. You sound SO much like me. So much. No wonder we get along so well.

I have to ask you something. Have you ever heard of Human Design? I really want to see your birth chart to see how similar we are!

If you haven't heard of it, the best way I can explain it that might make sense to you is that God had a plan for all of us. He created each of us in a very particular way to do certain things in this life to help humanity.

Human Design shows us what we are supposed to do and who we are in this life to help us live out God's plan. To use this tool it starts with getting your free birth chart. It won't make a lot of sense to you but I know a lot about it and I can tell you things about you based on your chart.

Would you be willing to look up your Human Design chart so I can look at it? I would love that!

You will need your date of birth, location you were born (nearest big city is best) AND ideally your exact time of birth.

Do you know these? Are you comfortable looking up your chart?

(If you're worried about online security then you can look up your chart and cover the birth details before sharing the picture with me here).

If you want to look it up go to jovianarchive.com and click on the thing that says "Free Chart" and then just put in your details!

(And I promise I'll answer your very good question in the comment above - soon - I just really want to see how similar our birth charts are!!!) 😂 !LUV

And... I promised a proper answer to your question about what I would like to leave behind.

I would like to leave behind a very large group humans of all ages, many ethnicities and backgrounds who are far more empowered, aware and kind (to both themselves and others) than when I met them.

I adore educating people about how to be happier, healthier and more conscious in how they do life. I love supporting people to process the old, stuck emotions they have living in their bodies and minds after bad things have happened to them. So doing these things, together, consistently, over time with as many humans as I can sustainably reach will help me reach this goal I mentioned above.

Hi @monioluwa. I'm stopping by to drop you a few suggestions to help you navigate better on our platform.

We have different communities on Hive and we're encouraging users to post in the right community based on the topic of the post. This post for example would fit better in Reflections community, which you may not know as it's relatively new.

OCD community is for topics that don't fit in any other community and should be used when you don't find a niche community for your post.

Here's a guide I put together to help you learn about how communities work and why you should use them -> Communities Explained - Newbie Guide. I also put together a list of communities, which is not complete, there are much more communities on Hive, but it will help you get started.

Once you posted your post in the right community, you can then cross post it to OCD community. Here's a guide about cross posting.

Please don't delete any post with the purpose of reposting it in another community as that can be considered abuse. Leave this post here, you'll get it right next time.
