The manual labour of Clearing of our farmland and preparing of our Farms for Cultivation.
Happy Easter Sunday to all the lovely souls in the beloved city of Hive. Easter isn't usually like Christmas with numerous travels and homecomings, but I do hope that we will have some quality rest this day and enjoy some sumptuous meals. A celebration to appreciate God for his sacrifice for us on the cross.
Before this day, I have continued with the vital work on our farm currently. We are working hard to keep up with the seasons, and since the rains have started, there is no need for any more waste of time.
I do not have much to prepare for the festivities; hence, we didn't spend the time at home yesterday. We were up and working at the farm, clearing the field for the year's farming.
There is such a large portion of our farmlands that needs clearing. Our farm is in two categories and in different locations in this city. The location where we plant rice is different from the location where we plant other crops. The majority of my farm work is with the commercial farmlands. Their portion of the land goes on for acres and acres.
The work on our family farm is what I have yet to start with. Using cutlasses, we beat down the corn stems from last year's farming and get them stacked in piles before setting them on fire.
Bush burning isn't often encouraged, so we don't set the entire farm on fire; we only pick up portions of the farm where we gather waste and set them on fire. Bush burning kills the soil texture. It is usually good to allow the remains of withered grasses and plants from the previous year's harvest to stay up and get decayed into the soil when the rains come. But for the plants that cannot decay up as fast as possible we often get them burnt.
Shrub trees like this takes long to decay that's why we have to burn them rather than allow them to decay in the farm.
There is loads of clearing work to be done, and we have started work gradually. This year we are trying to minimize the amount we would be spending in that farm as per Capital capital investment. I remembered vividly well how an acre of land is cleared at the rate of 10k per acre for us. If we are able to clear the farm by ourselves, we won't have to pay a dime to anyone as clearing bills.
