I have never known the importance of keeping this medicinal herbs until I was in an emergency yesterday.
Over the weekend I have engaged in some strenuous activities that couldn't be avoided and had come down weak and with body pains.
My pack of painkillers were already used up and I was home with grandma and no one else to send who can fetch me some drugs from the store.
When grandma realized that I was in pains she went into the garden to plug some of these leaves

She has washed it off and given me some leaves to chew. I am meant to swallow these without water. It was bitter but I had no choice, after taking it I was fortunate to sleep off and woke up feeling better.

This is one among the medicinal plants in grandma's garden.
Having felt better I took a walk around the garden and saw other plants I could barely recognize.

Grandma has the name she calls all of these and the different functions they provide for her.
Some of them are to be washed and eating raw like the one above.

While this one I recognize here is the scent leaf which we cook with our foods or vegetable soup to aid with digestion and stomach disorder.

Our parents and grandparents really believe in the potency of taking this medicinal plants and some have so much believe in this that they do not take doctors prescribed drugs seriously believing that only medical plants like this can treat certain illnesses.
My only fear is that both the active ingredients and other toxins are usually taking with the herbs since there has not been any scientific chemical separation. I fear that we may eventually take something that will have adverse effect on our health and we may get sicker curing one illness and hurting our liver.

I have been subjected to taking alot of herbs in the past when I was manifesting symptoms of sickle cell.
My uneducated parents took me to several places for herbal intervention and cure which never improved until I got some hospital intervention and began to understand what sickle cell means.

Although along the lines there were some vegetables that help to kick back the symptoms by improving on my general PCV and immune system.
