Never Take Any Opportunity For Granted!
Opportunities are favourable chances for advancement which comes to our ways at anytime whether when urgently needed or not. Either consciously or unconsciously we all at some point in time had taken an opportunity for granted. As long as we are alive, opportunities will continue to come to our way, it's now left to us to make use of it or allow it to slide.
Procrastination has been the main reason while lots of people allow opportunities to pass by silently cause they are occupied with other activities or feel reluctant to check it out on time till they lose it. Once some people lost an opportunity, they believe it will surely come around some other time. But most times before another opportunity will show, life would have dealt with them to the extent that when they see another opportunity they grabbed it almost immediately.
This wonderful prompt makes me go down the memory lane of my journey in life and I discovered that I've been able to make use of almost some opportunities that came my way except one in year 2018 during my youth service. It breaks my heart when I lost it, but I later encourage myself to forge ahead because what has happened has happened and I don't have to dwell in my past mistake.
I remember how I lost an opportunity of a job offer during my National Youth Service in 2018. One of my church member then in Delta state was a manager in one of the leading banks in Nigeria, so she told us the youth corpers in church (we were just 4 in number) if we have interest in banking and that she will fix us up the same month we will finish our youth service. I took the job for granted in the sense that I was hoping I will get another offer from elsewhere which won't be a banking job and the pay will be more than that of the woman's offer.
On the long run, I lost the offer and I went back to my parents house in Kwara state searching for a place to work. I later settle for a secretary job in an advance school of learning in which the salary was nothing to write home about and later move to a private secondary school when the owner of the advance school wasn't yielding to salary payment. It breaks my heart and I greatly regretted my action of losing the banking job.
Then there came another great opportunity in January 2021, there was Teacher's Recruitment in my State to all the 16 Local Government Areas. I grabbed the opportunity, I told myself that whether I'm selected or not I will apply and not waste the opportunity. I believe I might be luck to be among the selected people cause in government jobs there is job security and it's less stressful compare to private own job. We went through computer base test and oral interview. And has God will have it, by May 2021, I was among the selected applicant and was posted to a school in my hometown as a Chemistry Teacher. I was excited cause I didn't allow the offer to pass me by and since 2021, I've been a government teacher in my state.
How Both Experiences Helped Me
I've learnt that at every moment in ones life, opportunities comes and when lost it might never be regained. We should try as much as possible never to take any opportunity for granted. I only have the Divine to thank for smiling on me for the Government Teaching Employment cause I was previously moving from one private owned establishment to another without having anything to show for it.
Thanks for visiting my blog!
I feel not all opportunities are meant to be taken.
Hmmm you are right but what if you don't have anything doing at that particular moment?
